I just read that the men's 200 MR was DQd at Worlds. That race could've given Phelps a record 8th gold medal... bummer.
Phelps was very gracious about it. He said, "We came in here as a team, we exit as a team."
Sigh.
PS Did you see the size of his HANDS! I would like to swim just one race with hands his size, and feet the size of Thorpe's. (Yep, I have puny little paws!)
Um, we're talking about the world record holder here, folks. He is undoubtedly crushed about jumping even by the smallest of margins. His teammates all forgave him the error before they left the pool deck. He may take some extra time to forgive himself. Perhaps we could be a little more forgiving ourselves of him.
Unless a majority of you have been in the same boat, under high stress and in a foreign country representing yours, trying to be as fast as possible to show the coaches that you should be on the night relay, despite having lost to Phelps the day before, aching to redeem yourself, even if only in your own eyes, perhaps some of you could be magnanimous enough to say, "gallant try"? Anyone know his split?
And even suggesting that his visual physical state has anything to do with anything is just disingenuous and shallow.
