I just asked my mom if I could have tickets to Bejing as my graduation present next summer...she said I was stupid haha. But, I guess I shouldn't push my luck since I AM going to 2010 winter olympics to see the love of my life speedskate so....oh well....but who knows maybe she'll have a change of heart if she finds that I graduate as the Validic... Cuz, Bejing is gonna be awesome. Is this love of your life also a contestant on this season's Dancing With The Stars by chance? Newmastersswimmer
  • Thompson ended up with 13 I believe .. Thompson ended up with 8 GOLD medals (all in relays): 1992 400 meter free relay, 400 meter medley relay 1996 400, 800 meter free relays and 400 meter medley relay (prelims) 2000 400, 800 meter free relays and 400 meter medley relay Throw in a silver in the 100 meter free in 1992, a bronze in the 100 meter free in 2000 and two silvers in the 400 meter free and 400 meter medley relays in 2004 and that makes 12 (I believe...) but I'd need Skip to back me up...

No that this has been hijacked, Joey Cheek ... holy adorableness! Its not really hijacking if you are asking a reasonable question to clarify another posters comments....Look it up FlyQueenie o.k. Its clearly stated in the official book of posting etiquette (Section 41 D subsection 25 XZ) o.k. Never heard of the guy BTW On Topic: Phelps is going to win at least 7 gold in Beijing. Anybody know the record tally of total Olympic gold medals ever won by a swimmer of an entore career? Was it Jenny Thompson with 10?? (Where's the human swimming encyclopedia Skip Thompson when you need him anyway? LOL!)...Anyway, It wouldn't suprise me if Phelps eclipses that record two after just two Olympic appearances! it seemed like his stroke was more of a gallop than the other swimmers. i have seen several very fast swimmers swim with this "gallop" style. any thoughts on this?

Is the gallop because of their breathing pattern? It seems to me that these swimmers are breathing to one side only during their races and this seems to accentuate the galloping motion. I think so. I am so glad I forced myself to bilateral breathe on my 0-1650...it was hard work at first but when I did my 200FR, if I needed to breathe I didn't have to rush to get onto my "good" side. I took breaths as needed and then on the last 50 sprinted up a bit and breathed right side only...but hey I'm no frontcrawler...

After reading several of the (media) articles about this fabulous swim (and World record) and Phelps's remarks, my respect for him has increased. I had always admired his fantastic talent and abilities but his remarks about Ian Thorpe have proven that Michael Phelps has shown the manners of a true gentleman. He could have easily taken the path of arrogance and cockiness, when interviewed within minutes of his achievement, but I liked and admired his tone. (Too many articles to quote here, but they're all over.) Well done, Michael (on all counts!)

Heather: You are correct that Jenny has a total of 12 Medals from the 4 Olympics and with that is the total leader of all time for swimming. A lot of people get confused because somehow they think she swam the prelims of the 800 Free Relay in 2004 and had swam that event in the previous two Olympics (1996, 2000) and that is why they come up with 13 total medals. She passed both Mark Spitz and Matt Biondi and they had totaled 11 medals in there Olympic careers. Something tells me that Michael is going to be the all time leader after 2008.
