Hey everyone,
I have a problem...I don't train very vigrously or religiously when theres no meets in site...so....because there are so few masters meets around me, I am also re-joining US swimming. ((is that allowed? To swim both?))
I was wondering though...how does one get a hold of registration forms for those meets does anyone know? I will be swimming unattached...but I was messing around on the metroswimming website and couldn't find anywhere that had registration forms for meets that I could print and sign up...
I suppose this would be better asked on a US forum, but I couldn't find that either:o
if anyone could direct me in the right direction that'd be great!
It's perfectly fine to register with both USA Swimming and US Masters Swimming (USMS). Bunches of people do that.
For USA Swimming, you need to register through your local LSC (Local Swim Committee). Sounds like for you, that's Metropolitan Swimming. Their athlete registration form is on this page:
www.metroswimming.org/.../Forms.htm
specifically, this file:
www.metroswimming.org/.../2007Athlete.pdf
Fill it out, send in with your check to the address, and they'll mail you a USA Swimming registration card, probably within a week or two.
For information about meets, check out the Metro LSC calendar:
www.metroswimming.org/.../Calendar.htm
That has information about meets in the LSC. Note that since we're at the end of the SCY season, and many LSC meets don't have meet information ready yet, there may not be a lot of meets with information yet.

I have been registered with both in the past. If I want to swim an USS meet I register through our local club and have them submit my entries with theirs. It's easy for me since my wife is the coach. Even if you want to remain unattached it might be easier to get in contact with a local club or their coach for meet schedules in your area and also to help you with registration with USS and meet entries.
For USA Swimming, you need to register through your local LSC (Local Swim Committee). Sounds like for you, that's Metropolitan Swimming.
Albany is actually in the Adirondack LSC.
My recommendation would be to get registered, find a meet you're interested in swimming, then contact the meet director and ask how to enter. My experience has been that most meets these days want entries submitted using HyTek Team Manager. There's actually a free version of this available from HyTek. It isn't really all that complex once you play with it for a little while, but I would imagine most meets will still accept non-electronic entries, especially when it's coming from an unattached swimmer whose only entering themselves in the meet.
I am entry chair for our USA team's meet. I would take an email entry, and a follow up waiver and check from a USA registered master. The best bet for finding entry information is to look on the host team's web site and contact the meet director.

There is an athlete registration form you need to fill out. Lots of masters do both USA and masters. If you can't find it on the website, I think there is a "contact USA swimming" email address to send inquiries. The form might also be referenced on your LMSC or local USA swimming website? Good luck!

I too, was dually affiliated with both USA and USMS for a year (last year) for the same reasons that you want to be Morgan. There is no masters swim team anywhere near me (and all attempts by me to form one have failed so far)....So I worked out (and helped coach) the local agegroup team here in town and went to their USA meets. It was a lot of fun too! I really enjoyed getting to know the kids on the team (and the parents of the kids too). I had a little problem with the head coach though because he was a bit too much of a hothead towards the kids IMO. Swimming in the USA meets was very challenging and lots of fun as well. Good Luck Morgan!

My LSC requires TEAMS to enter using the HyTek files but there is a standard LSC "consolidated entry form" for Unattached swimmers to print out, fill out, mail in with payment.
You must be registered with USA Swimming before you can submit an entry form. Some LSC's/meet hosts will allow "deck registrations" to join USA Swimming if they allow late entries (enter the day of the meet) but you will need to provide them with a photocopy of your birth certificate, driver's license, or other legal ID showing full legal name and birthdate. It is much better to handle this ahead of time and USMS swimmers who are affiliated with a USAS club should have their USAS team handle the registration and entries.
Suggest that you also familiarize yourself with your LSC's Policies & Procedures if you are not working through a USAS team. There will be a few "gotchas" that aren't spelled out in the meet information as they expect the teams to be familiar with how the LSC operates.
I am contemplating registering with US swimming so I can swim in more meets. I can't find the registration form on my LSC (Potomac Valley) page though. Where should I look? Thanks.
