To the practioners of the most noble stroke...Hip pain?
Former Member
I'm a breaststroker...for anyone who confused "noble stroke" with some other lesser stroke....;) Usually the one part of my body that hurts is my shoulders and occasionaly knees, but my hip has been killing me lately.
I have double jointed hips and they occasionally slip out of place, but I can usually pop them back in easily and it only takes about day. My hip has been hurting for about a week now and it's different pain then slipped out of place.
Any ideas what could be causing it or how to fix it?
Merci Beaucoup!
That was not me....I have documentation that can prove I was out of the country on both dates....
Only one man could pull this off.....the Evil-Goodsmith.....only problem is someone would have noticed....he's far less handsome then me and as skinny as my forearm.....
Paul, please tell me this those times are not true. Not because they are bad, but because I wouldn't want you to cross over to the darkside ....
(I am doing a 50 *** at my state meet next month, I guarantee it'll be only slightly faster than my 100 free. I'm doing it for laughs and because it's a 50.)
Hello Everyone,
just to set the record straight, I've seen Paul The Elder Smith do the 50 BR in a meet, so don't let him kid you. Plus, he says that he hurt his knee duck hunting or snipe hunting or getting out of the pool (whatever), but I believe the breaststroke gods paid him back for venturing into OUR private and most sacred stroke.
Let him have it.....
Personally, I have never had hip problems from swimming BR (used to swim 3000 yds give or take/day ALL BR before becoming baptized as a freestyler), so I can't comment on joint stress there. Only the knees matter to me.

OK, Mr Smith, here are some facts: 2006 March 26, 100 BR = 1:05.85 at an Arizona meet; 2006 October 8, 50 BR = 31.50 at a meet in Colorado both swum under the name Paul Smith. You should have used an alias like Thor the Stroker, for example. You're just p***ed that neither is a top ten nor a national record, so you're not admitting your secret worship of the stroke of the gods. Check in with a regular breaststroker some time & we'll give you a few tips!

Ha Ha.....Paul you need some serious solarcaine to heal the burns Mel just laid on you....LOL!!
I would get it checked out regardless of whether or not it is getting better. Hip pain, especially if it pops out and locks should not be taken lightly. You probably need a round of Physical Therapy. Keep swimming breaststroke!
I have been having a groin problem, mostly as aching, for the past 6 weeks and am at a loss as to what to do. I am pretty sure it occured in the pool while doing some underwater kicking with my fins. My PCP has ruled out testulicar cancer, infection, hernia or hydrocele (I have a very small one and not painful). I have seen a Urologist and my PCP again within the past two weeks and both agree that it is a strained muscle (my PCP believes the hip flexor). They said I should "take it easy" but swimming (pulling only) should be fine. Also, as I live in a multi-story house, they said I should go up the steps one stair at a time. I am supposed to do this for a month. Well, as impatient as I am, it has been a week of this and I haven't seen any improvement. In fact, if my intensity is more than 50% in the pool, the aching begins. In fact, even driving my car (automatic) for any length of time or walking for more than 20 minutes cause the ache to return.
I was doing some research and found the Iliopsoas muscle as one that sounds like it could be the culprit. Apparently, problems with this muscle are usually related to runners. My PCP won't refer me to PT for another week as he wanted to give it two weeks of pulling only and rest to see if any improvement occured. I am on Naproxyn and have been for the past month.
I am planning to stay out of the pool for the next week until I can see my PCP again and, hopefully, get referred to PT or some other remedy. Do I need to just give it more time? Any advice would be msot appreciated.
Thanks
Randy
