Life is to short to eat (or more appropriately, consume) Gu. I couldn't agree more! If I feel I need to have food along for a longish workout, I like the plain whole wheat bagel or the pbj on grain bread. But I seldom (almost never) eat anything before my 5 a.m. swim. Afterwards I have my steel cut oatmeal, yogurt and a banana that I pack to eat at work.

I just go for large buckets of lard.....A bucket of lard and a spoon is all you need Rich....You will have energy to burn for days. Newmastersswimmer ...and the runs too. For days. You don't happen to refer to your food as vittles? ;)
  • That is ENTIRELY TOO EARLY! Blech ... I cringe when my alarm goes off at 6 am ... that being said when I was in my crazy, world domination quest phase of swimming and did doubles (it was short lived) I was in the pool by 6 which was way too early for me and probably a big part of the reason why that didn't last very long ... It feels early until I'm in the pool and enjoying the water. Sadly, I like being able to sleep in on Sat and still do a 2 hour workout (7-9am) but due to a meet, our practice is 5-7am tomorrow. :snore: Luckily, the measters team starts at 7 so I may do both practices and get in some extra work. OK well I've bought a 12 pack of chocolate boost, and a "NoFear" caffeinated super bar. The disclaimer says " not for children, pregnant or nursing women or anyone sensitive to caffeine."

mmmm...Fig Newtons. They always worked well for me - for biking at least - especially in the morning, if I don't quite have an appetite / enough time to each much. Two Newtons with some green tea, and I'm good to go. If time allows though, I prefer a small bowl of oatmeal with some OJ. Haven't yet figured out what works for swimming for me. I have plenty more important things to improve there before I'm too worried about what to eat!!!
