Which poster would you most like to race and in what event?

Who do you want to race? In what event? The race is on. I'm challenging Richjb to a 50 ***. I'll even challenge Terry to a 50 butterfrog.

Les- do not challenge Jim. Years ago I ripped the cover away from his identity...'Jim Borkowski' is just a veiled reference to his real name/title. His real name is 'The Bork' and he is a mostly-android machine intelligence sent to the earth's past to tip the scales against the future's Federation and the Starfleet. He is still recovering from his last battles with Captain Jean-Luc Picard and the crew of the Starship Enterprise, but when he finally mends he will set out on his ultimate mission: to subvert Earth's evolution into a starfaring civilization (thus weakening the Federation at a critical juncture) by promoting butterfly as a stroke that a rational human being would do (and as the future Federation would ban as a 'Tasteless remnant of barbarism') which would lead to a galactic boycott of Earth. posted by the sesquipedalianist canuck Fortress, ...Pay no attention to the northern sesquipedalianist behind the curtain......he is especially prone to having delusions about crazy plots to destroy the world......he often wakes up at night in a sweaty panic thinking that some super intelligent beings from the future have come to disrupt the temporal equilibrium of our particular parallel reality..... thus causing the world to be swallowed up in a catastrophic temporal vacuum that wipes out the existence of every man, woman and child that has ever lived in our current time line. Its a product of having his brain constantly bombarded by the high frequency cosmic radiation that leaks through the atmosphere near the North Pole. This so called "Bork" character is just another illusionary product of his runaway northern induced schizophrenia. Next thing you know he will be telling you crazy things like Leonard Jansen is my cohort from the future sent here to assist me in my mission to destroy the earth's future entry in this so called "Federation of Planets"........ I've never even heard of "Starfleet" and "galactic federations"?? Who is this so called arch nemesis of mine named John Luc Picard anyway??? Its really sad when you think about it. My advise is to simply humor him and then avoid contact with him as much as possible. Newmastersswimmer

I sense a challenge coming on!!! Not much of a 200 flyer, but I have swum the 200 fly a few times as parts of bets... case in point, am doing it this weekend as part of the 200 fly, 400im, 500 free "animal" bet a few folks on my team are doing. Last swam 2 years ago, I think, and I think the PB was 2:17. With that event order and a recovering cold/sinus infection, I might be hitting that 3min mark posted by Muppet Are you going to SCY Nats in 2008? We can have our competition then. I still have to lose about 60 - 80 pounds of extra buoyant body tissue before I'll be ready to make any real challenges like that. It should be a close competition though in the 100 fly and 100 IM since you're time in the 100 fly from SCY Nats in 2006 is about 2 tenths of a second faster than my current PB as a masters swimmer...and your 100 IM time from that same meet is about 6 or 7 tenths of a second faster than my masters PB as well. I wish I lived closer to all of you guys so that I could go to some of your regular masters meets.....Its sounds like you guys are going to have a blast racing against one another.....I feel so left out now! Newmastersswimmer p.s. Good luck Muppet in your upcoming animal challenge!

I see that 'The Bork' is weaving his usual obfuscatory web of evasion and deceit, last seen in the the infamous 'flame wars' where our collective civility was reduced to a smoking ruin. His reference to LBJ only reminds of the last failed galactic plot to humiliate earthlings by turning them into racewalkers. The extra pounds he refers to are likely dilithium crystals needed to power his butterfly warp drive when challenged. Les- Captain Kirk was a noted breastroker, but never swam. Jean-Luc Picard preferred badminton.

Good luck this weekend on your animal swim!! Sounds absolutely awful. Do you have any "loser buy dinner" bets in place? I sort of thought you'd swim the 200 fly a lot, since you like that distance free stuff. I think I would be much closer to 3:00 than 2:17. In fact, I think I should not be racing anyone right now except maybe Jean-Luc Picard in breaststroke. :dedhorse:

Barring any weddings (not my own) that may need to be attended, I am planning on it, yes! Re: my times, yeah, last year was a PB year for the Flys and IM at SCY Nats. 2005 nats was all PBs for the frees. But in the meantime, let me know what meets you're going to in NC and TN - I have been known to travel to NC to swim. Perhaps we can have a prelim in 07 and final in 08! posted by Muppet Sounds cool to me.....we will just have to wait and see when and where this preliminary showdown can take place....(probably not until next fall sometime). You are in a great location up there with swimmy and LBJ et al! I am very jealous! Newmasterswimmer, You are so cute when you do your geek talk. You need to come up to MD for some open water races! You could get to meet Leonard and me! posted by the one and only swimmy ...our resident Poet Laureate Swimmy!! So great to hear from you again! I hope all is well with you these days.....Have you and Leonard swam in any arctic open water swims up there lately LOL!!.....We need you to ressurect the meaning of swimming thread from the ashes with some new Swimmy poetry....perhaps an ode to swimming part XXXVI or so.....If you write a new poem then I promise to follow it up with my own poem. Also make sure to tell LBJ that the northern sesquipedalianist has blown the lid off our secret plans....ah ..excuse me, I meant to say: tell LBJ that I need to talk to him soon about optimal practices when swimming long open water swims in arctic conditions...yaeh thats the ticket. Newmastersswimmer p.s. What do you mean exactly by "geek talk" anyway?...(just j/k of course..LOL!!)

Good thing I like endless hyper-delusional sesquipadelian pontifications ... (Jim -- Mr. Purple Prose is my buddy despite his preferred stroke choice.) But you guys are quite the tendentious pair. I couldn't possibly keep up with your ubiquitous palavar and pillorying involving protean and lupine-like beings engaging in flagrant vigilantism in alternative virtual cosmic matrices. posted by the fortress Amen! I know exactly what you mean there Sister friend.....especially the part about the alternative virtual cosmic matrices....(P.S. Is that where I eat the blue pill instead of the red pill to enter the alternate virtual matrix reality?) Just can't wait for LBJ to join in ... In one of his last posts, he called backstrokers "call girls". posted by the fortress Hey its not like he's galavanting around the galaxy somewhere in the 24th century or something....so lets just get that straight from the start o.k. I mean I'm sure there's a perfectly logical explanation for his recent absence around here.........and I thought everyone knew that all backstrokers (despite their gender) are either currently call girls or they were once call girls in a previous life.....its common 24th century knowledge...U humm, I mean common knowledge that is. Newmastersswimmer, Great to talk to you too. I saw LBJ at a race last summer in MD. I do have a polar bear plunge coming up next week. You should come! We do need to get our old thread going again. Ode to the geeks.....Swimmy posted by the one and only Swimmy! Good Luck in your polar bear plunge Swimmy!! Have you seen how the fort and the British Blowfish have resurrected our beloved poetry thread?! Its time for a new classic poem by Swimmy now. Where is Seagirl?...We need new material Seagirl (come out come out where ever you are....time to come out of hiding now and join in on the fun!). Newmastersswimmer

Since I just started back into training this week, M-W-F only this week and next, I would have to change my earlier challenge from distance to this after 3 workouts: I'll challenge the Fortress to drills only; and they have to be very short drills instead of a backstroke stair race. I am now thinking after discovering how I feel after 3 workouts, that no more than one length of the pool in any given drill. And I think I had also challenged Terry to a multiple mile swim, well, based on this week's performance and tremendous soreness, I am going to renig that entirely unless I have a very good handicap. Sorry I have been off the forum for so long, not only do we not have internet in-home, our power went off for 5 days!!!:help: Donna
