LOL. Ok, I'll do a virtual race. I'll have to practice that butterfrog a bit more so it'll be competitive. Everyone at my practice will laugh when I ask to be timed in it. quote]
I did my fastest-to-date 100 Butterfrog last night, while swimming a 3600-yard IM set with Dave Barra.
Swimming from a pushoff, on the way to a 400 IM, the digital clock said 1:23 when I looked at it as I turned to begin Backstroke.
Maybe we can do this as a back-and-forth series of swims pushing each other to go faster. You might not have too much difficulty knocking that one off, motivating me to go faster.
Geez, I think a 1:23 might be too fast for me in butterfrog. That stroke makes me sink. I'd be better off swimming it all breaststroke, especially if Allen can fix my strokes in a few minutes. I tell you what, Kaizen, when I'm over my sinus infection and get back in the pool after the holidays, I will time myself from a push off in 4 100s: 100 fly with fins (gotta keep 'em on right now), 100 butterfrog, 100 ***, and 100 *** with a dolphin kick. Then I will report back.
Chaos: I'll arm wrestle you, you feisty left wing Italian flyer.
HAHAHA I got $10 on Ande...no offence Oko ;)
Speedo Santa, if he starts from the water, I think I can win by a photo-finish, if he starts from the blocks, no way!!!
Then you are on, Terry, for a virtual race and we may as well swim all the way from Dixon Cove to the mainland of Honduras. It is only 43 miles, but remember it is virtual. And because it is virtual, the tiger sharks on that side won't eat us, so swimming all through the night won't be a problem for either of us.
I swam in Cork once. My husband is Irish and we went over so he could meet family members and I swam. Wonderful.

Well, I'm on the comeback trail, but I finally felt decent enough to do some swims for "time" at the end of practice. I started off with the 100 butterfrog, or I intended too. I must concede defeat. How embarassing. I went about 40 yards and was about to drown, so I threw in the towel.
Instead, I did the 100 "breastdolphin." Did a 1:21 push off, maybe 80%. It was astonishing to actually have some forward momentum/propulsion in "***." So, we're probably at a draw with our preferred kicks. I also did a pair of push-off 50 flys (26s) and a pair of push-off 50 backs (27s) in a descending set of 5 x 50 back (with fins--shoulder rehab). My only object was to stay under water SDK-ing as long as I could (couldn't quite do it the allowed maximum on the second length). This exercise makes me think that I should just be happy with my dolphin kick and that my current obsession with SDKs/monofining is worthwhile. If I can't do fly 10 years from now, maybe I'll try butterfrog again. But until then, you'll have to race someone else in that event.
After reading how fast the fortress swam her 50 flies and 50 backs in her last post, I now want to race her in both events.....I'm not a sprinter so she has the advantage.....we're both around the same age (I think?)....and she never mentioned me at all in her post about which posters she wanted to meet in real life.....so now I'm out for vengence!! Its time to take the fortress down in the pool....(only in the friendliest manner of course...lol!)

I never knew you were such a poet and admirer of poets at the time!! I'd be delighted to meet an academic J/K-er! I enjoy reading all your posts -- you should post more often.
You did notice that I was swimming those 50s with fins, right? But, ok, you're on! I'm 45. I may have the fast twitch advantage (although you will see I am currently just "hoping" to be a sprinter at the moment), but you probably have the shoulder advantage and height advantage. My next meet is in MD in late March with Muppet and SwimmieAvsFan and SwimShark. You're welcome to come. SwimmieAvsFan is looking for revenge in the 50 back, so I might as well be prepared to take it on the chin in the 50 fly too. There will be some fast 200 flyers there as well, as I guess that's your bragging event. Maybe Muppet will take you on. I doubt there will be any butterfrogging ... At least I don't recall any from last year.

They are still pretty fast times, even with fins. Maybe I'll let my son race you in my place. He has really gotten fast in the past year. His 100 free and 100 fly last weekend were great.
And I just keep getting slower.
I'm a little out of shape for a 200 fly right now (A 25 yard fly is probably as far as I can go at the moment).....as far as racing Myuppet goes...well I just looked up his times and found out that his 100 fly time from 2006 SCY Nationals is a little faster than my best time since joining masters a couple of years ago....so maybe it would be a close race between us? His 100 IM time is also just a little faster than mine as well. I didn't see a lot of 200 fly times for him ...and I guess he didn't swim that one at SCY Nats in 2006....so I can't really say what would happen there....I went 2:06 something a couple of years back...probably couldn't break 3:00 minutes if I swam it today....or finish it legally.
I'm still up for racing you in the 50 fly and 50 back....although I can't quite make it to Maryland to swim in that meet....maybe in Austin for the SCY Natinals in 2008? (or is it 2007?). I agree with poolrat that even though you were wearing fins when you swam those times the other day, they still are pretty fast times IMO! You might thrash me in those races.

2:06?!?! I shudder to even think about it. I once swam a 100 long course (I shuddered and stunk up the pool. I'm not sure if Muppet was in my heat. He might have been. I'm sure he crushed me.), but I have yet to attempt it in short course yards or meters. I'm working on it. I might get there one day. Or not. I think it's Federal Way in 2007 and Austin in 2008 for SCY Nats. Not sure if I can go this year. I might try to ditch the family and go... I'm mulling it over and waiting to see if my gimpy shoulder holds out and improves. If not, we can have a cyber-race. I'd be happy to do the 25 fly if you prefer. ;) I swam that once this year, but that was before I became obsessed with SDK-ing.
It sound like you need to do some ENGINE-BUILDING! Me too. This was my first decent workout in 2 months.
Poolraat:
I don't race 14 year olds or other youngsters or even participate in USS meets. (I know you don't have much choice.) I think I've also told you that my 12 year old can beat me in every known event except the 50 fly/back/free -- and she's closing in fast. Because I have no engine and am reduced to being a drop dead sprinter, she beats me in everything else and any other distance. (Well, maybe not the 100 back -- she is a breaststroker after all. They all hate backstroke.) She recently eclipsed my 100 IM in December and reminds me about it every other day. (She went a 1:05.)
How'd your son do? Sounds like PBs.
You'll get faster!! You just had a really rough month like me -- sinuses and pool closures. Give yourself a chance to bounce back. You got a lot of time until Federal Way. You'll do great. And may I recommend a monofin to help out with those 50s?

Thanks for asking. Our State meet was last weekend. He swam 7 events and had PB's in all of them. The thing that really made us happy was that he made the B final in 5 of his 7 races. 50 & 100 free, 100 fly, 200 & 400 IM.
I can no longer say that I am faster than him (in any event/distance).

Your words are too kind fortress.....I now officially forgive you for not mentioning me on that thread.
but you probably have the shoulder advantage and height advantage.

I'm not sure about shoulders and height, but I am sure about one thing....I definitely have the weight advantage (as in I'm definitely much heavier than you...LOL!!)
