Any ideas? What are your goals, what's your actual level?
I guess telling you my goals would help :p During the summer I swim longer distances and during the winter I swim sprints (50's, 100's). I would like to build my endurance as well as strength training for sprints. I am an intermediate level.
That strength training for swimmers book looks good. I think core strength is important to swimmers for holding streamline,turns,dolphin kick, breaststroke undulation,freestyle and backstroke long axis rotation,etc. If you are going to do distances from 200 down you need to increase your power. Swimming is basically a low resistance,high volume exercise,therefore I believe it is important to do high resistance,low volume lifts that focus on the swimming muscles.
I have never understood how core body strength (if such a thing exist) could help in swimming, cycling or running.
I've always thought that minimal endurance those core body muscles was more than sufficient.
Now I know... I'm comming from the old school. Not that we didn't care about core body aspect you know. We'd do a fair amount of abs and all. But nothing compared to Divers, boxers or other athletes that really need bullet proof core body muscles.
I'm not on an argumentative mode at the moment, I'm just trying to learn.

The reason for this, is that you can easily perform mixed sessions. That is a some dryland followed by some swimming. Add to it flexibility exercises (much more important than strength) and some core body endurance exercise and there you go.
