Does anyone have a link to a good site that shows a video clip of the track start?
I've been praticing it, but I think I"m going in to deep. It's slowing my time down.
This is a good video showing the above water reaction -

From the back view -

If you watch this video of Michael Phelps after he dives in, it shows about how far underwater you should be -

You don't want to go too deep, and if you think you are, then you probably are. Do you find yourself having to swim more upwards off the start than out to catch the surface?
After studing the video's I have realized my arms are all wrong. I don't know why I was think the track start the arms are placed out front. But from the video's they are basicly placed the same as a grab, only difference is the feet.
I will have to try it again tomorrow and let you know if I'm coming out deeper.
BlayzingInfrno: I am looking for a good grab start clip. Shouldn't take long.
Concho Pearl: Exactly right, there is not much difference with the arms between a grab and a track start. I fluctuated between the two in the past, and settled on the track start because I feel so much more in control of my force and motion into the pool. I also feel more stable on the block. Let me know how it goes in the pool. :-)
I'm going to have to see, last time I praticed my starts one of the lifegaurds told me to stop diving. Ironic though because they teach kids and adult how to dive. And most the the lifeguards don't care, but this one did. I may have to get special permission. Our Y has NO Diving posted in the deep end.
Maybe one the lifeguards can help you (if they are friendly) by watching you or instructing you. Just work on diving outwards, not down. Jump out. It will take a few, probably more than a few, tries to get it feeling normal. Good luck
