That's his SCM time in a 25 meter pool. His LCM time is around 18 minutes....is what he claims. There would be a bigger difference between 17:55 scm and around 18 mins lcm. Did he do his swims in a usa or usms meet? If so, what meets so we can look at the results.

This is what he was swimming in... not efficient, but it got the job done I had jet propulsion of another kind on Saturday but it didn't help. Maybe next time I'll take some waterproof matches.

Did he do his swims in a usa or usms meet? If so, what meets so we can look at the results. It was on a German triathlon board. The guy's from Germany but said he spent a year in the US where he apparently went to some popular swim school with good trainers which is how became so fast. According to him his speed is nothing special because a bunch of 12-15 year olds swim between 15-16 minutes. Yeh and Lui started that one too :) Hehe..but this time it was just supposed to be a rant because the guy said anyone who swims the 1500 meter distance in 22 minutes or more isn't a real triathlete/swimmer.
  • Someone walked off with my kickboard today during my workout. It was sitting under the block with all my other gear, has my name in big letters in permanent marker, and looks nothing like the ones on the rack at the pool. I eventually found it a few lanes down and got it back, but jeez.
  • The last couple mornings at my gym, there's been a very old woman there water-walking. She's hunched over and seems very limited in her movement, so water-walking is no doubt a good thing for her to be doing each day. So I have no issue there... except for some reason she wears a cap and goggles. This morning it occurred to me, what are the cap and goggles for? You don't need them for water-walking, right? But then a few minutes later she went one better than that. Waaaayyyy better: she added a snorkel. Dry-headed water-walking with a snorkel... I had never seen that before, until today! later she did some real swimming with the snorkel, but for a while there it was "wow, just wow"
  • Snorkel - Her osteoporosis may dictate this. Hope I never get it. My mom's is so severe that she can't look people in the eye and she lost over 6" height. I don't know about anyone else, but that comment made me sit up straighter at my desk.

I have heard of capable adults with unusual body types drowning in shallow water if they lost their footing. One example was a woman with an extremely buoyant butt and lower body in less than 4 feet of water. She was just wading and did not know how to swim; she couldn't roll onto her back nor get her mouth back up to the surface. Goggles - I wear 'em in the pool even just kicking to protect my contacts from splashes. Chlorine water ruins 'em. Probably not the case here. Snorkel - Her osteoporosis may dictate this. Hope I never get it. My mom's is so severe that she can't look people in the eye and she lost over 6" height.
  • I can't stand that so many kids don't learn lane etiquette. It's not soccer. It's swimming... How about this? The age group practice at our pool is supposed to end at 8:30 so the Masters team can swim from 8:30 to 9:30. They never seem to end on time! I blame their coaches. No wonder there is such a short supply of etiquette, the coaches model inappropriate behavior. Either start your practices earlier, or shorten them to end on time. I didn't get into the pool until 8:40 last night. We old people need our sleep. It's not like I can go home and go right to bed. It takes me an hour to settle down. There. I feel better now (not really).

Good ol' "Gold Medal" Reed here has a point. Our practices are late and starting late really does us no favors. Especially when some of us are up at 4:30 every morning. I've taken to meditation, using slow music in the car on the ride home, and the occasional glass of wine to help chill the nerves from my swim. This is just so I can try to pass out before 10:15. No dice. Last night I was wired til midnight.

I thought of one that happened yesterday: when the lane lines are not tight enough and the swimmers in the next lane cause your lane to shrink to about half its normal size. This drives me bonkers. The lifeguards at my gym never tighten up the ropes when they move them back after noodler classes. Which means when I coach the swim workout the next morning, I'm always reaching for the wrench during warm-up. At least they're good about always keeping it in the same place.
