  • Are you swimming at the Peachtree City Pentathlon in September Rob?I may be too busy running it to swim. But, if I can get it together, I’ll swim the distance pentathlon.

MIA, Right after swimming, run, don't walk to your doctor (make an appt ahead of time); get a note that says you are close to heat exhaustion from swimming in hot water. If you can get that, their "legal dept" may let you out of your contract due to "liability." And the sad thing here is: it can HAPPEN. donna

Thanks all for your advice. I'm taking the path of least resistance by just getting out of there and never coming back. There's a great facility with two 50m pools (one indoor, one outdoor) a little further away - I did not consider it seriously before as I only took up swimming a few months ago and at the time the indoor pool was heavily booked out (it still is, most days) and I thought I'd be too much of a wimp to swim in the outdoor pool. I also thought I would lift regularly (hence the gym membership), but that didn't happen - weight lifting makes me too tired and I tend to skip swimming, which is not a good thing. Now that I've learned my lesson, I'm slowly migrating to this new pool complex, swimming there once a week. They've got a great casual rate and it will be cheaper swimming there in the long term. The current weather also does a world of good to my underwater dolphin kick, as I tend to practice it as much as I can when I'm swimming in the new outdoor pool, as it's mid-winter here in Melbourne and limbs sticking out above water immediately freeze :).

Melbourne brings back good and bad memories for me, I heard they tore down the 1956 Olympic Pool. The Olympic village was in the housing Complex Heidleberg it is supposed to be in pretty bad shape now.
  • Rob- CONGRATULATIONS! So exciting :groovy: :woot:  (I'm getting all weepy thinking how proud you must be) Alas, at the other end of the swimming spectrum- Brenna was behind the blocks not once, but twice, and "chickened" out. I don't know if that's really the right phrase with a 4 year old... oh, well maybe next year. On a different note, that next day, in our backyard she dove! and then was diving for diving sticks and wearing goggles. What's the saying? When a door closes, a window's open somewhere!!! I'm still proud of her because she can swim free and back really well :agree:
