Alright I need to work on my kick, too. So let's get a thread going (yeah this should probably go in the workout thread but I am too lazy to put it there) about kick sets, drills and workouts.
I'll start. We do a lot continual kick. For example, a 10 minute kick (it hurts!) with all out and moderate alternated. Usually our coach yells out what to do. You can do this on your own too. The all out sections are never more than a few (20 seconds maybe long).

Come on people some has to have something!
Where's Ande?
I was only on a team for a very short time; two months.
We most kicked 500m flutters for time. Occasionaly we'd do 400 IMs also.
Now that I swim all by my lonesome I avoid kicking at all costs. :D
But I have started incorporating it in my regimen little by little.
I'm a terrible kicker also, so by no means would I recomend takingon my approach.
This is something I am begining to work on so I'll certainly be following this thread.
sorry I didn't see this earlier, grass hoppa
(said with the same accent as on the "Kung Fu" TV series)
i've written about kicking in several places
so here it goes, AGAIN just for YOU
FIRST get your best times for the
15, 25, 50, 100, and 200 kicks
test this for all the different kinds of kicks you do
free / flutter, with a board or without
fly, with a board or without
*** with a board or without and
back without a board
maybe rest
3 min between the 15 and 25
5 min between the 25 and 50,
7.5 min between the 50 and 100 and
10 min between the 100 and 200
another day
test
10 x 50 kick on 1:30
pay attention to your times
another day
test
5 x 100 kick on 3:00
pay attention to your times
Plus any time you're given a kick set,
try to beat or be close to your best times.
do descending sets or various distances
every 4 to 5 weeks retest the 15 - 200 set
Learn to apply your new speedy kick while you are swimming.
do sets of hard 50's with 5 seconds rest
do sets of hard 100's with 10 seconds rest
improve your distance per kick
Do 25's where you count how many kicks it takes.
do drills where you concentrate on improving your distance per kick
if you're a backstroker flyer or freestyler
get really good at dolphin kicking in streamline position.
did I mention to stop going through the motions on kick sets and pay attention to your kick times?
