I saw someone post this picture in r.s.s. Apparently, the guy was upset that he wasn't let in a pool in Czechoslovakia where he was visiting (he's from the U.S.) Have you seen these kind of signs elsewhere? Not that I'm against them, I'm perfectly fine wearing the "approved" attire.

Amen sister, I wish it was 5 too. It's just after four here. I think i rather be having a root canal right now than be working. You can tell my the amount of posts I've put up in the last two days that I LOVE my job!
Dima, sorry hon, but the US had a HUGE impact on WW II both before they entered it (supplying Churchill with weapons, ammo, etc.) and a massive impact after the entered it.
I have studied WW II in depth and can confidently say that America helped end the war more quickly. A big factor in ending the war ... the atomic bomb. Not proud of that moment in history, but nonetheless.
Also, the additional American troops on the ground helped to win for sure!
You have to keep in mind I learned WWII history in the States you learned it in Russia ... probably a different take.
I still would love to know how the civil war is taught south of the mason-dixon line!
Alex - no kidding, man. And you know - I've had crappy tequila and really high quality stuff!!
Whew...we have really gotten of the topic of shorts.......!!!
Here's what I think about shorts: I love 'em. I like speedos too; and I like thongs, just not on me. Personally, I would swim in jeans and tennis shoes if I thought my coach would let me.
I don' think there should be a dress code at the pool, but I have a thing about people with long hair not wearing caps. Yuk! Who wants to swallow someone's hair???
In reality - who cares?? But this thread has gotten interesting...
God bless my parents. They have a time share in Mexico and bring back really high quality tequilla every year! That sounds like a fun and dangerous relay. I'd be swimming very slowly for sure.
Yes, I did actually know that basketball was invented in Canada. God Bless the Canucks! Thanks for Gretzky, too. He rules!

And, maybe the best thing about the greatest nation on earth - crack and crank are readily available. Taken it can produce bizarre historical revisions, by recent immigrants or even natives.
I'm just proud we won the war for everyone else and then didn't kill 7 million of our own citizens thereafter in a fury of blood lust.
.
Wow, GEEk, you are really behind.US won the war for evryone else?I wonder how that happened with very limited manpower from the states.Heather, I agree, the US had an impact, but it all stopped in Russia, we shed some blood - every 3rd(!!!)and that is Russia with population of over 200mln.) was killed. All my four grandparents went through that hell. Two of them lost their parents and my grandfather was still a kid and travelling under trains not to be noticed by Germans(he is still alive). On the 8th of May Germans announced to be surrending, the 9th of May is the official date of the end of war.It is our national holiday and is called Victory Day.We hold big ceremonies in all the cities and give respect to the veterans of that war(not many of them left now)
There are many of the factors of the victrory and by no means am I diminishing the US impact, but however funny it might sound the key to success was the Russian winter.Hitler was very arrogant and he thought he could trump as easily through Russia as he did through most of the Europe.German soldiers did not expect the sub 50 weather and their tanks were not built to last that, whereas Russians had theirs built with ability to withhold those temperatures.Tanks in those temperatures can just freeze up and not move, actually my father is a retired captain and he told me how they used to put fire under their tanks to get them moving in their training sessions in Siberia. So a lot of Germans were killed by the the weather itself and a lot of their materiel was disabled due to the same reason. Please, do not laugh but that is recognised to be one of the major reasons of the success to stopping Hitler.
The Canucks to the rescue... Gretzky is supposed to play for NY when hockey gets underway in the fall. Yes thanks to Mexico for that drink I love, when I go there every year for 4 months.
George
While I don't disagree that the Russian winter had an impact on Hitler I would most certainly argue that the US involvement in the war was a bigger influence. Russia actually dragged their feet a lot and did not want to help out Churchill and Roosevelt and their respective nations.
You certainly won't catch me vacationing in Moscow in winter. You also can't convince me that the winter had a bigger impact. We celebrate D-day over here in June, yet I don't think that everyone packed up after we landed in Normandy and went home ... it's never that easy. There are always a ton of factors that go into winning a war. It is not a single battle, single winter, or single person.
Also, the Germans had their supplies cut off by who? The Americans! (and a bunch of other useless countries ... again, kidding!)
ah, yes ... dang Yankees! I had a TA that told me his friend got a speeding ticket in southern Georgia and made a comment about coming through like Sherman. I'm pretty sure he was taken off to jail to think about it.
God bless all the racist southerners (again, kidding!)
Alright ya'll it's 5 o'clock here now! THANK GOD! I am so ready for this week to be over, is it Friday yet?
Hugs to all!
Yes, I'm pretty sure that's where that atomic bomb thing comes in... There is a beautiful museum and peace park near Nagasaki (sure I'm spelling it wrong). Haunting museum ... lovely peace park ... again, can't we all just get along ...
Hugs to all!
I save all of my old one piece suits and wear two or three of them the week or two before a meet....so I actually think that wearing shorts is totally appropriate and great for drag, especially before a taper.
Has anyone out there actually worked out in jeans and tennies?
