What are some good high energy meet snacks?

Hello all. I was curious to find out what some people reccommend for meet snacks. I usually don't pack much (the standard Gatorade and bagel), but if there is something that you use that helps you in the water, I'd like to try it. Especially when you are waiting through the 1000 and 500 frees to finish up during the meet... you just feel all creaky when you get up to go to your next event. Thanks! S.
  • Bananas, fig newtons, bagels, dried apricots, apples, water and gatorade type drink. Go light though. Coffee and/or red bull when you get sleepy about 30-45 minutes before your next event.
  • Sarah, if you are feeling all creaky when you get up to go to your next event, you should be spending more time warming down after the race and warming up before the next. But back to your question; bananas, water, coffee, Accelerade. Also, there are a few threads that have already addressed this. You may what to see what was said on those.
  • I recently bought a Clif Builder's bar and found it very satisfying. Not a paid endorsement here...

    I hate most "energy bars" I think they're nasty and taste like plywood held together with old wallpaper paste. Don't even get me started on that gel goo. However, my sister (who runs marathons in her spare time) turned me on to Luna bars (made by Clif), and to the Pria bars (made by Powerbar). The Luna bars are really good if you need energy; Pria is more for a low-cal, low-fat snack. Plus, they fit pretty well in a swim bag, and if they get squashed, you're not cleaning banana goo off of everything. They also have all kinds of vitamins and such in them - designed for women (extra calcium, folic acid, iron, etc.) Kae

    The man who designed Clif Bars recently died. they are wonderful pick-me-ups. He did a great service to those who swim & run.
  • kae- i agree with luna bars! i totally dig them. there's quite a few different flavors and they seem to be getting easier to find. i also like some of the powerbar harvest bars- they're more like a granola bar than the sticky gooey original powerbars. clif bars are good too. energy bars are about all i pack for meets other than a few bottles of gatorade. i try not to eat too much during meets; too much food makes me feel like i'm going to sink during my races...

    And it's important that you try out which kind of "high energy meet snack" is best for you. Don't try anything new on the race day. Stick to what works fine for you during a meet. Brgds Mathtias
  • I usually do the Power Bars peanut butter. I recently did the Powerbar gel and it wasn't bad.

    Thanks for all the info, everyone! I got one of those Clif bars for a meet two weeks away I did get one of those PowerBar harvest bars for this weekend (I've had it before). I've had those PowerGel things before, and I thought I was going to start to convulse from swallowing that thick, slimy goo! Those things are just plain wrong. Hee! I never eat too much during a meet too, my nerves always get the best of me. I just need something simple to go along w/ my gatorade. I will have to start warming up a lot more as well.
