I am new to this site, and wanted to see what speeds everyone is here. I generally find myself in the fast lane at Masters practices, but I wonder if I'm swimming with people who are not that fast! Generally, I do a set of 10x100 (for example) on 1:20. I usually get 3-5 seconds rest doing those.
I haven't competed in any Masters meets yet, but would like to this winter. My time for the 1000 (swimming it during practice, all out) right now is 13:36.
Oh, I am female, 29 years old.
I am glad to be back in the water after being out for about 4 years during grad school. But boy, do I feel slow!!
So are you from the UP in Michigan?
If you want to see how your times compare with the "elite" in your age group check out the top ten lists here: www.usms.org/.../toptenlist.php
I am also 29, female and hold about the same for 10X100's. I don't know if that makes either of us fast!! I used to be able to hold 1:03-1:05 for a set of 20-30 100's........but, that was way too long ago. I think holding 1:10-1:15 per 100 is a really good start!!!
I can hold about 1:30 (technically it's like 1:28) on 10x100. (yeah I'm slow.) I'm working on shaving that time (and all the other times) down though, so you all better watch out at the next meet!! (j/k)

Comparisons, upswim? I'll show you mine if you show me yours! :)
Oh, wait. You already did...
OK. I'm 46. Male. (Gonna be a grandpop in March!)
If I were to go on 3-5 seconds rest, I'd probably settle in at about 1:30. I can swim for thousands of yards (at least 4000) nonstop at a 1:30 pace. At that pace I do 1000 in exactly 15 mins, but to save my life I could probably keep up with you at 13:36. Prolly wouldn't have much left in me after that though.
I can still break a minute in 100 free. Maybe even hit :58. I don't have the best recovery rate, though, so I can't do too many of those in one day.
Hi Upswim,
Yes, for most people a set of repeats at a 1:20 cycle would be a feat. Are you fast, well that depends on you defintion.
Swim in a meet and then compare your times to your age group.
