Ok, a few points on backstroke -- first the arms, think thumb out pinky finger (smallest one) in, try to go deep with your arms. Keep your hips up, you almost want a slight arch in your back. Back stroke takes a lot of legs. And most importantly keep your head still!
Hope that helps!
Run a search on this web site and you will find much information on swimming backstroke, pointers, workouts, etc. Good luck! Will look for you in 2008!
Don't go deep on backstroke pull. Think shallow. You will naturally go deep when you rotate. I tell all my swimmers to think of shoulder action. When you rotate, try to get your opposite shoulder out of the water.
Good luck
strong core muscles (abs, etc) are important to keeping your hips high. and high hips make backstroke much more efficient. i usually do between 300 and 500 reps of various ab exercises, and don't forget to do something to strengthen your lower back too...
good luck!
