New aerobic facility - need suggestions

The aquatic center I use is building a new aerobic exercise facility that will be opening this Spring. I'm told they will have all the latest machines. I've searched previous threads for info, but can't find any recommended books or web sites to guide me toward routines beneficial to my swimming. So...any ideas out there? They will have some training to introduce people to this equipment, but I'm not confident they will have the expertise to create a routine for my swimming. Thanks for any help.
  • Hi Steve! Wow - I haven't checked the Discussion Forum in a long time and who do I run into but you! What do they mean by an "Aerobic Facility"? Is it a track and some weight equipment? Is this going to be at UW-Whitewater? I might like to come down and visit it if you can tell me more about it. *** Pitman

Hey ***! Good to hear from you. Their letter to members says, "...elliptical machines, incline trainers, treadmills ~ and they will have the Freemotion line of strength training equipment". It's not a huge facility and won't include a track. Just as well, running tends to beat up my joints. I have no idea what the Freemotion equipment is... I'm bummed that I have had to miss many of the meets this season. My schedule and my kid's birthday have kept me away. I very much look forward to attending the State meet in April. I'll see you there! And, I'd be happy to show you around the Whitewater Aquatic Center. Come on down! Steve

Steve, Not sure but it sounds like what they are going to do is similiar to what we have at our facilty, though we call it a cardio theater - 10 treadmills a mix of elliptical trainers, staionary bikes (including recumbents), rowing machines and step/stairmasters, these are all lined up facing a series of TV monitors that are tuned in to various cable channels, by using headphones you can select which channels audio you want. Included in this room is also free weights and machines, though we are using the Paramount line of equipment, Freemotion might just be the brand like Paramount or Nautilus. If you have a chance to influence or give input on what type of equipment/exercise machines they will purchase and put in and would like some help, give a holler our athletic trainers and persoanl trainers here are very knowledgable in the cross training department.
