Does anybody else out there have frequent dreams (when asleep) about swimming? ....I seem to be forever dreaming I'm swimming in some way. Is it that swimmers often dream of swimming, as say a cyclist dreams about cycling confused:

The other night I had a dream that I was at an indoor meet that was taking place in a very small pool. It was very crowded; and there was only one event - the 1,650 (funny thing is that I was preparing to swim the actual event in a few days!). Anyway, instead of the heats being slow to fast, they were fast to slow. One guy in particular was so fast, that he had the first heat to himself. After his swim (oh yeah - people were warming up in the same pool but in different lanes even while this guy was competing), he got out and started to look at his time and splits on a tiny monitor screen that looked something like a digital alarm clock. I asked him why he was being so secretive about it, and his reply was, "I don't want anyone to know what my time is because the swimming federation is very intolerant of gays, and because there is so much discrimination and gay bashing, everyone has to keep their swim time a secret."

One time I dreamed I was swimming, and the water got thicker, and cold, and turned into slush -- they were freezing the pool for a hockey game, it turned out. Another time I dreamed I was swimming in a pool cluttered with people, then it became clutter, and then it turned out I was trying to do the crawl along my living room floor, which was strewn with laundry. I guess these ones have little to do with swimming, really. The ones that have to do with swimming, I suspect, are the ones where I am managing to gracefully muscle my way through the air! juneo

I think it is great. Maria

The other night I dreamt I was swimming in a pool, and the water turned to blood. It was shocking as well as scary, as you can imagine!! According to an online dream dictionary, blood symbolizes passion as well as disappointment. Water symbolizes the emotions. Considering what I've been going through, it makes sense.
  • Gab, Where is this on-line dream dictionary? Sounds like an interesting site. Glenn

I've had many dreams about swimming.......... most of them fantasies, about swimming in the olympics, which will never happen, but one can dream can't they!? haha Although sometimes I'll have a dream about swimming in a meet and getting beat by one of the worst teams in our district. Those are horrible, and the really bad ones are the ones where I'm swimming and I can't seem to move, like I'm kicking and stroking but I'm not getting anywhere, it's really horrible. And i wake up doing the kicking motion for the *** stroke sometimes, heeheehee. Glad to know I'm not the only one!:D

I seem to have swimming dreams when I've been out of the water too long. And then about practice with new teams
  • I was a very active sleeper! One night I went running full sprint down the hall and into the closed door leading to the garage. Maybe I was late for swimming?! My family came running and in the morning I didn't remember a thing. I do remember one night though waking myself out of a dream where I was swimming. When I woke myself up I was going back and forth from my window sill to the dresser in my room, across my bed. I was actually doing turns! And whenever I went to "away" meets with my Mom we'd share a bed. In the morning she would tell me that I was swimming in my sleep. I didn't believe it at first, then I saw the bruises on her legs where I had been "kicking". Ah, the love and patience of a mother... :)

Before I got into competitive swimming, I had a recurrent dream in which I was getting ready to compete in a swim meet. I was in a locker room changing into my suit, but I was nervous because I was afraid I wasn't ready. After I had the same dream a couple of times (same locker room - one I'd never actually been in in real life), I decided it was something I was supposed to do. Bob
