Does anybody else out there have frequent dreams (when asleep) about swimming? ....I seem to be forever dreaming I'm swimming in some way. Is it that swimmers often dream of swimming, as say a cyclist dreams about cycling confused:
  • I don't know about frequent, but several times during the year, I either dream I'm with my high school team (swimming in my old college pool), with my college team (swimming in the current masters pool), or with my masters team (back in HS). Gets a bit confusing at times.
  • Maybe y'all just need to pee.

I dream about swimming at least once a week (that I can remember) The dream varies from week to week, but there is one reoccuring part... when I discover that I can actually breathe underwater. Subconsciously I must want to be a fish.

Yes, I don't have a particular recurring dream either....only that I'm always in the water, or trying to get into the water.

It's crazy, but I dream about swimming and water most nights of the week. I've tried to figure out why I dream about swimming, swimming pools, open fresh water, ocean water, and bridges over water. where I grew up in Portsmouth, Ohio there was a gigantic pool called Dreamland. It was gigantic, and about a decade or so ago they tore it out. That pool is in my dreams all of the time,as is the Ohio river. Also, I think the water is correlated with how I feel--if I feel upset, or stressed then I dream about dark or dirty water. If I feel great then I dream about clean and clear water. It's really strange. Sometimes I dream that it's winter and there's an outdoor pool that's 3/4 full. And, it seems ok to get in it even though it's a little dirty--and then I'm doing laps, and the pool is nice and big and allows me to swim at least a 25. The whole time though, I'm aware that it's a little weird, but I'm ok with it... Talk about weird... Maybe I need a shrink!

I think there is a correlation to water and the emotions...that makes sense about dark murky/ clean water and how one is feeling. Also think swimmers really love this element, and we possibly express our innermost feelings through this medium. From the sounds of things you probably love your freedom ..with the open water and all that!

Sometimes I dream about swimming in a pool with no water. Or in a pool where the water level is slowly depleting. My fear of having nowhere to swim?

I don't dream about swimming very often now, but I did when I was younger; and almost every one of the dreams was about breathing and talking underwater. I also used to dream that I could fly, but my flying was like swimming breaststroke, and when I quit "swimming" through the air I would sink and land.

I have never had a dream about swimming. I've had dreams about drowning, however. Sometimes I dream about running -- freely, effortlessly and without pain -- something that I can no longer do in real life (bad knees, bad foot, bad hip). Most of the dreams I remember have to do with being on a campus-like setting. Not surprising, since I spent 32 years of my life in school, as either a student or a faculty member. Sometimes I'll dream I have a calculus test to take, then suddenly remember that I taught the subject for twelve years. On rare occasions I dream that I can fly through the air by flapping my arms and thinking light thoughts. Awake, I have never been able to do that.
