How do you keep track of your meters swam? I always forget where I am...and probably either over or under swim most of the time. Believe me, I'd rather just swim the 1000, rather than make it a 1300. Especially for the postal swim---my lands, how do you keep track of that???!!! jerrys

Well the postal swim requires you have someone record your splits, so you (the swimmer) don't need to count. In general, though, use the pace clock. If you know your pace per 100 you'll know if you've done a 300 versus a 350, etc. Actually the only time I find myself losing count much is during warmup. I guess I'm just not "dialed in" yet and lose my concentration.

I have a workout planned ahead of getting to the pool. Typically, I do shorter intervals. Lots of 100's or 200's. Longest continuous I do is usually 500. The shorter swims are easier to keep track of.

i find counting essential,it allows me chance to pace myself on longer distances,or to sprint harder on shorter distances, when i'm doing say 200m in 25m pool i'll count to myself 1 of 8,2 of 8,3 of 8 ,4 of 8 etc at the end of each length,on longer distances its just 1,2,3,4 etc until say 60 for 1500 metres sometimes i lose count by say 1 length or so but this only means 25m out so not that important shorter distances i never seem to lose count.

Another thing that I do on longer swims is count my strokes/laps together. Say I have done 2 laps and am breathing every third stroke. I will count in my head 1...2...2...1...2...2 Then later after completing 8 laps (and while swimming the 9th) I will count 1...2...8...1...2...8 Sounds weird, but it works for me.

Are you talking about losing count while you are in the water. If so I had the same problem with that also. I would be swimming 500's/1000's and my mind would just go off into la la land about other things. They have these really cool counters on the kiefer website that fit right on your finger (about the size of a large ring). I've used that and not only does it keep track of your laps, but also times/splits. It's great. If that's not the kind of keeping track you are talking about, then totally disregard my rambling. On that site they have 2 different kinds of clocks. I have the most expensive one and I think it's about 35 bucks. The other is around 20 Kelli,
