In my family, we do pork roast in saurkraut every New Year's Day for good luck. It's a good thing that is the only time we do it - it takes a year for the smell to leave the house!:)
Heh, that was the tradition 'back home' for my family too.
Dare I admit ... I like sourkrout.
As a kid for meets (and I still eat it ) I like cottage cheese rolled up in bologna, hence the name, bologna roll-ups. It used to be perceived as strange in the PBJ crowd.
Since I tend to travel for work, I just love trying new foods, especially regional. The two last I had were in nothern Spain.....
Pulpo - which is boiled octopus with butter and paprika, awesome
Fabada Asturias - beans, pork shoulder, chorizo, and blood sausage with a side of the blue cheese, Cabrales. Northern Spanish chicken soup!
I feel hungry thinking about this..Home made tacos with fried shells not the store bought box shells. Spaghitti with Giant Meatball, Cachiucco (sic) (italian seafood stew). Shrimp Shrimp Shrimp! Spare ribs and saurkraut..Soup and crusty bread. Oh I could go on and on
but my Favorite "Healthy" Food Dish is...
Chicken Souvlaki Platter! Grilled Greek marinated chicken *** on skewers over a green salad with Greek dressing, Fresh tomato quarters, mild salty Greek pepperoncini peppers, Greek Kalamata Olives and ground Feta cheese served with a side of hot Gryo Bread cut in quarters (Gryo bread does not have the pocket that Pita has and is a little softer)
Low fat, carbs, and good!
My all time favorite has got to be Vegemite. It is dynamite stuff and the secret performance enhancer of Aussie swimmers. Stock up now before the world finds out and bans the product. clyde
Call around to health/natural food stores. Also, if there are any shops that sell British goods, they often carry it.
Just don't smell it before you taste it...
