I've haven't been swimming competively for about 2 years, but now I am getting back into it, I am in better shape now than when I was 12, I play football and baseball. Swimming season starts in the end of october, what are some drills I can do to get faster? I can't get to the pool very often becayse I have school from 7:50am to 2:37pm and football from 3:45-7:00pm, and football on saturdays 8:00am-9:00am, so they only day I can swim is sunday, so I need some out of water drills, any help is greatly apreaciated, Thanks

probably not if you only intend to swim once a week..I would sacrifice the footy and baseball if you want to really improve and concentrate on swimming - there just arent enough hours in the day or days in the week!

I will never quite football or baseball, I found out that the school pool is open on tuesdays and thursdays for 2 hours, and i have about 2 or 3 weeks after football till swimming starts, and I was timed today, my 50 free was 28.31, and my 50 *** was about 40 seconds, is 40 good for a 50 ***?

Stretch your way to success - I have always thought about swimming in terms of My Swimming TriangleCopyright, where one side is Technique, one side Stamina and the other Flexibilty. In your case you should have a good basis of technique since you use to swim, but it is hard for you to further imporove this due to lack of pool time. I imagine you are fairly fit due to the sports you do, so Stamina shouldnt be a problem. But Flexibilty is something you can probably improve on if you have been out of the pool for a time - and something you can do out of water

hey thanks, but my 50 free time is just about 30 seconds, and state qualifying time is 22.50 or something close to that, is it possible to get unnder 22 seconds THIS swimming season?

i cant answer that for you - its a question of relativity with the answer dictated by factors such as your age/swim history/fitness/ etc etc but probably most importantly your own set of achievable goals in swimming. 40 seconds might be good if you have never done a 40 before but again I dont know. Look at it methodically, where are you now? where do you want to be? and so, how are you going to get there? Make your goals hard enough to achieve to keep them worthwhile and make them realistic and achievable. To jump a free time from 30 secs to sub 22 is in my mind unachievable in a swim season but then I dont know what you are/or have been capable of. I like to use people's doubt a strong source of motivation though. But I also feel that if you are unable to dedicate the time to swimming then again you will find it hard to achieve higher swimming goals. So again JC, are you in it for the long run(swim!) or just for fun?

I am a serious swimmer, very serious, but I'm not going to quite football or baseball for it though, I can keep in shape, I can swim 3 days a week right now, then in october, 6 or 7 days a week. and for that 50 ***, I used to get about 52 seconds on it.
