Hi, I'm new and have a few questions. I'm a little older now and have wondered about masters swimming. Even though my SN says NYCButterfly, I'm from Indiana and my strength is in sprints, Freestyle. NYCB is a sn name from one of my book series for teenage girls who swim. Anyway, my questions: How do you get started if you want to see what you can do in competition? Do you have to qualify for nationals?

You can enter almost any meet, including Nationals, without qualifying. Qualifying times are required for Nationals only if you wish to enter more than three events, i.e., you can enter up to three events without qualifying. The best way to get started is simply to enter a local meet, which are usually very low key and have swimmers with a broad range of abilities, from elite competitiors to complete beginners.

If you are interested in participating in a local meet, I suggest you visit the Great Indiana Master Swim Association Website. It's web address is http://www.grinswim.org/. It will list upcoming meets and has an application for membership in GRIN. Curious as to where your located, there may be a local swim club available to you if you are not already involved with one.:)

I noticed in another posting that you are currently swimming at BSU. There is a group that swims regularly in Noblesville, 4 times a week, and depending on exactly where you are located this may be an option for you. We swim T-TH at 6:00 PM, SA at 11:00 AM and SU at 10:00 AM. This is our regular schedule subject to change depending on HS swim meet schedules. If interested let me know and I'll put you in contact with the Nobelsville group.:)

Hey Randy, Thanks for the info. I would be interested in swimming on weekends there if possible. I'm about 40 minutes from you in the Yorktown area.

We swim at the Noblesville High School located at 18111 Cumberland Road across from the Hamilton County Jail. You take I-69 to the SR 38 exit (Deer Creek) and come West to SR 37. Go North on SR 37 to SR 32 (past Walmart and KMart). Turn left (West) on SR 32 and go right at the light (Cumberland Road). High school will be on your left. Enter the school through the south doors pool will be immediately on your left. Can't miss it!! This Saturday we do swim early. Swim Meet conflicts. Saturday we will be swimming at 8:00 AM and Sunday will be at 10:00 AM. I am out of town this weekend but ask for *** or Doug, they will be happy to introduce you to the NASTI's.
