Hi, I'm new and have a few questions. I'm a little older now and have wondered about masters swimming. Even though my SN says NYCButterfly, I'm from Indiana and my strength is in sprints, Freestyle. NYCB is a sn name from one of my book series for teenage girls who swim.
Anyway, my questions:
How do you get started if you want to see what you can do in competition? Do you have to qualify for nationals?

You can enter almost any meet, including Nationals, without qualifying. Qualifying times are required for Nationals only if you wish to enter more than three events, i.e., you can enter up to three events without qualifying. The best way to get started is simply to enter a local meet, which are usually very low key and have swimmers with a broad range of abilities, from elite competitiors to complete beginners.
