Cleveland rendezvous, possible beer

I feel I know many of you frequent forum contributors even though I've never actually laid eyes upon you; along these lines, I'm wondering if maybe we could arrange a Long Course Nationals get-together, perhaps raise a cup of grog so that when we correspond via this forum in the future, we'll actually be able to put a face to the words we are reading (and which I personally have found so helpful about all things swimming). I signed up for the meet via the online registration process, incredibly easy, by the way; unless something unforeseen occurs between now and August 15th, I plan to be in Cleveland along with some of my teammates from Sewickley, PA (we'll be swimming for Allegheny Mountain Associations Masters). Anyhow, if anyone out there is up for it, perhaps we could decide upon a rendezvous spot poolside, then go out for a beer when the day's events are over. Hope to meet some of you guys.

Jim-ster, I'm there, and I'll see if I can bring along the rest of the family medley relay as well--half of them hailing from Westview and Belleview, PA. Hopefully the thought of Ion and I in the same room won't scare off everyone else. Where is Tall Paul? Are you up for this? Matt

Although not 'tall' & not 'Paul', this Smith would be pleased to share a cold one (or two), even though I have probably not made the National Qualifying Number of Posts. All things being equal, I will be at the meet (they have my money already so my Scottish ancestory will incent me to show up). Ian.

As champion poster (especially when you include my aliases) I also regret to say I will not be attending. Hawaii depleted my discretionary funds, and I am saving my money for a new age group and Rutgers in 2003, where I hope to meet all my east-coast virtual buddies. (and I won't talk politics.) Have a great meet all of you, and swim fast. And Cleveland is a really nice place to have a meet.
  • I recommend the Great Lakes Brewing Co. Pub and Restaurant 2516 Market Ave. 216-771-4404 Located just west of downtown, 2.5 miles from the pool and even less from most of the hotels.
  • Sorry gang, but Laura and I are passing on LC this year. Hopefully were going to make the trek down to Melbourne in October, my Aussie buddies tell me they have have a far better pre race diet than the infamous "pizza/beer" I've championed!
  • Guys, I just got back from Ocean City, NJ and am glad to see I will be able to meet some of the freqent posters in Cleveland, including Ion (a legend in the forum world) and Matt S. (ditto) and Ian (a somewhat less frequent but no less worthy poster in his own right.) Sorry about Phil and Tall Paul, but perhaps we will reconnoiter at some future meet. Due to a quirk in the USMS rules, I get to swim as a 50 year old, even though I am not yet technically 50, so I am hoping to get my first ever top 10 finish in something. I suspect it might make sense to have our goblets of grog later, rather than earlier, in the meet progression00maybe Friday or Saturday or even Sunday. Anyhow, I look forward greatly to meeting one and all. You can probably recognize me--I will be the one gasping for breath at the conclusion of every event I enter, perhaps being assisted out of the water and administered aspirin to prevent thrombosis. Laura, your suggestion for a beer emporium sounds great. I understand that when taken with aspirin, the thrombosis-thwarting effects of beer are quite powerful indeed. Jim

Me too, I get to swim as a 44 year old, still in the age group of 40 to 44 for now, even though I will be 43 year old during the meet. It is one funny FINA rule, while most of the FINA rules are sound. When USMS changed to FINA rules for determining ages in 1999, I jumped from competing in the summer of 1998 as a 39 year old, to competing in the summer of 1999 as a 41 year old, thus I skipped one year. Jim I wonder about Friday as maybe the best, but I don't know what Ian, Matt and Jim are saying yet about this... I should be under the banner San Diego Swim Masters, but it might be that no one is organizing it: at UCSD where I train, and where there is a bulk of fast swimmers spread over four workouts per day, I am not aware of anyone coming; in each meet, San Diego Swim Masters gets lots, lots and lots of points from the participants in Coronado, and they set last year the banner San Diego Swim Masters where I was hanging out, but they haven't contacted me this year as them coming. I will find you Jim, and I will find Matt also. Also I would need a ride if we go downtown, since I will be on foot, lodged 0.5 miles from pool, at 'Best Hotels and Suites'. I wonder if Laura' suggested place has red thick beer, because by now I have already started to salivate thinking of the red thick beer's taste...

Try two posts per day between now and August 15, first day of the meet, to bring up your total number of posts to a 'normal' 92.
