I feel I know many of you frequent forum contributors even though I've never actually laid eyes upon you; along these lines, I'm wondering if maybe we could arrange a Long Course Nationals get-together, perhaps raise a cup of grog so that when we correspond via this forum in the future, we'll actually be able to put a face to the words we are reading (and which I personally have found so helpful about all things swimming).
I signed up for the meet via the online registration process, incredibly easy, by the way; unless something unforeseen occurs between now and August 15th, I plan to be in Cleveland along with some of my teammates from Sewickley, PA (we'll be swimming for Allegheny Mountain Associations Masters). Anyhow, if anyone out there is up for it, perhaps we could decide upon a rendezvous spot poolside, then go out for a beer when the day's events are over.
Hope to meet some of you guys.

Jim,
This is shaping up well. I forgot, however, to mention that I will be accompanied (by 'she who must be obeyed'). She will be fine with a glass of wine while we have our beer. I hope this doesn't cramp anyone's style. It may help in the avoiding vomitous inebriation department.
Nevertheless, having run the Boston Marathon two of the last three years, if she finds a running group event, she could well joint them in preference.
Ian.

Matt, is there any way you might requisitiion a tank or something to ferry us from the pool to the bar? That way if we do get drunk, we won't really need a designated driver.

Let's not be cheap here:
make it a helicopter, Matt.
People, people, people...
Any decent logistician knows that you can't fit our crowd into a tank, or any but the biggest helicopter.
What you want is an armored PERSONNEL carrier.;)
By the way, I think Carthage should be destroyed.

Not Saturday August 17, no.
We can talk about Carthage, Scipio, Hannibal, and phoenicians at the 'Great Lakes Brewing Company' pub.
Gee! I think I'll change my mind and drive to Cleveland (7 hours) in a borrowed taxi cab. Looks like I could make a mint (and enough to finance a trip to the Short Course Nationals next year) hauling a few extremely happy swimmers around.
All the best.

Are you serious about coming?
Saturday August 17, at the pool?

For those into ancient history . . .
"Gallia est divisa in partes tres." Anyone remember where this comes from? I think I got the Latin correct. Perhaps it should be changed to "USMS Forumes est divisa partes millennia!" :D
That is "Wales is divided in three parts.", perhaps by Jules Caesar battling the Wesh named Vercingetorix.
Close enough! It's the opening line to Iulius Caesar's (there is, as you may know, no "J" in Latin) Gallic Wars. The literal translation is "All Gaul is divided into three parts." I remember having to translate all of this in Latin class many years ago. Oh yes, for those who just might be tempted, I don't speak Latin as my native language! See, I poked fun at myself. Bye for now!
The quote actually is:
'Gallia est omnis divisa in partes tres'
The "all" was left out. I too got subjected to this at school - seems to be a worldwide punishment to have to do Caesar's "De Bello Gallico". BTW, Vercingetorix was a Gaul who took a beating in what I believe is now Bourges in France (not Wales, for sure)
Not my favourite beer drinking topic......
