2016 Go the Distance FLOG goal

For those of you who set a Go the Distance FLOG goal for the year, how are you doing? I set a goal of 325 miles for the year and achieved it today.:bliss: Good luck to everybody, and for all of you who celebrate Christmas, Merry Christmas! :carolers: :presents2::santa3: For those of you who celebrate Hanukah, Happy Hanukah! To everybody, HAPPY NEW YEAR! :party2: :wine:
  • After exceeding my goal of 365 miles in 2015, I wanted to swim a little less in 2016 and add more bike and run so I set a goal of 300 miles. While I did achieve my goal of more bike and run, I did not reach my much lower swim goal due to being sick for several weeks in February and March, and being injured all of December. For 2017, I hope to continue to increase biking and running, but also get in at least 300 miles in the water. We'll see how that goes.
  • How about a national level swim meet?
  • Halfway through January, and I'm already 4+ miles behind on my 2017 goal. Holidays, weather, and the pool was tied up with a meet last weekend. With luck, I can get back on pace by the end of the month. I'm turning 50 in June and would love to do something swimming-related to celebrate... just not sure what, yet.
  • How about a national level swim meet? LOL. I take it you've never seen me swim. : )
  • LOL. I take it you've never seen me swim. : ) It doesn't matter how you swim! ANYBODY can compete at Nationals, and swim three events regardless of how slow or bad you swim. Orca gave an excellent suggestion! If you haven't been to Nationals, you're missing out on a wonderful opportunity to have a blast, make new friends, and watch some AWESOME (even Olympians!) swimming. In addition, you will see swimmers just like yourself. It doesn't matter how good or bad you are; nobody cares. The only person who will criticize you is yourself. Believe me, I know. Been there, done that! Look up "Elaine Krugman" in several of the results of Nationals since 2010. I have been to a bunch of them, and you will see my name either at or near the bottom of most of my events. Not once did anybody ever say anything negative about my efforts. (Maybe they did behind my back, but who cares?) As a matter of fact, at several Nationals when I swam my worst event (but one of my favorites), 200 fly, I got congratulated by many top-level swimmers for getting out there and doing something they would never do.
  • Thanks for the lovely words of encouragement. Alas, general lack of money is another problem for me (and I'm also currently in a lot of pain, so the idea of doing anything competitive is not remotely appealing). I'm sorry to hear that, Nancy. :bighug:

  • I'm sorry to hear that, Nancy. :bighug: It's a bummer, but that's where my life is right now. Yesterday I did my "long" weekend workout, and half of it was kicking, to avoid aggravating the tendonitis in my right arm.
  • :applaud: Keep up the good work, Nancy!
  • My arms are feeling a lot better, and I'm within half a mile of my GTD goal pace. I had lost so much pool time in January that I was 3-4 miles behind--always a depressing feeling. With dogged persistence, I've made up the distance. Woot! Still no clue what I'm going to do for my birthday, though.
