Swimming in Montreal - Canada

The olympic complex has one. I am from Maine and when I was in HS, I'd never swum in a 50m pool. We went to Montreal on a trip and I wanted to bring my suit to the olympic complex. Mom told me "there's no way they just let people swim in it." Well, we went to visit it and there was open lap swim. I just about killed my parents :-)

McGill University has a masters team and a decent 25M complex, but get out to Olympic Park and swim there if you can. There are a number of pools in the area, but some of them are more accessible if you have a car. As long as you dont mind walking, McGill is walkable from your hotel. I hate to be the bearer of bad news but the main Olympic pool is closed for renovations. You can't even check it out right now. The training pool at the Olympic Stadium is open. It is a 2x25 6 lane pool under the bleachers and may not be worth the trip. Two other options: The closest pool to you is Cegep Vieux Montreal--it has free swim every weekday evening except Monday evening from 5:30-9. It is a salt water pool (50m cut in 2x25m with between 4-14 lanes open for lap swim. The pool is on Saguinet and Ontario St. so about four blocks from the hotel you mentioned. Another option close by is the pool at the Downtown YMCA on Stanley St. near Peel Metro. Happy Swimming
