“It’s My Birthday and I’ll Swim if I Want to”
Many swimmers do special things for a birthday swim such as swimming their age number of 50’s or 100’s. Some may be even more creative! What do you do?
Shameless plug, but yes I am doing the Swim With Mike at USC for my birthday this year. I plan on swimming 5,000 meters. No particular reason for the distance, its just a good number.

...And since it was my birthday I was allowed to draft behind Olympian Kirk Stackle.
Oh, wow, that sounds awesome. My birthday is tomorrow. Any Olympians out there care to volunteer for drafting duty? :cake:

Still, to have the 3600 total, in 6 sets of "600" (w/ 1:00 rest between each 600):
1 x 600 Free
2 x 300 Free @ :15 rest & neg. split the 300s
3 x 200 IM - just 'cause @ ~:30 rest
4 x 150 Back @ :15 rest, then :10 rest, then :05 rest
6 x 100 Free @ 1:20 (good enough??, or push it with 1:15s)
12 x 50 Odds Back/Evens Free @ 1:00 - cruise the backs, sprint the frees
I like this workout...but I am curious: is it based on SCY, SCM, or LCM?

For our birthday swims the birthday person makes to workout. The total yardage is related to their age. 32, then the workout will be a 3200, 41 then the workout a 4100, etc. Afterwards we head to BJs for lunch and some birthday beers. I really love the group I swim with.:cake:

I like it! That 100 free interval probably needs some work, though.
We do birthday age x some distance, like 60 x 50 for my hubby's recent birthday, broken up into 6 x (10 x 50) so we did 25 drill/25 swim for warmup, then 50's kick, a set pull, a set with 50 IM's (try it!), and played with descending and going fast on the last 20. Then breakfast out with as many of the team that can make it, where humorous cards and trash talk is encouraged. It's really fun!
