It is used for the extra repetition or two it has proven to allow when lifting weights. Some say it is dangerous to use, but many things are dangerous when consumed enough. There might be swimming related info available.
Happy Thanksgiving
I have never used it for swimming, but have friends that use it for lifting.

Creatine provides an extra phosphate that is helpful to the body make ATP which is the energy source. Using it for swimming would not really be all that beneficial. It is more to give a short burst of energy such as in weightlifting but endurance athletes do not find it quite as useful As a rule. I would not spend my money on it if I were you
Creatine will help you squeeze out, for instance, 12 reps before failure while supplementing instead of 10 reps without it. I don't think it increases explosive power or speed directly, however it can allow you to reach your strength potential sooner in the weight room (as well as increase the chance of injury in the process).
