Does anyone know the history behind why anyone would build a 32 meter pool in the US? Maybe a space issue? It is obviously not used for regulation meets - any info would be greatly appreciated. Have a great weekend.
Perhaps to provide a 25 yard or 25 meter course and be able to provide an additional swimming area when a bulkhead is used. Several of the city pools in Seattle are approximately this length and that's what they do.
33 1/3 YARD (100 feet) pools were a standard at one time and I bet with some dilligent searching I bet you can find the old american records for pools of that distance. Last one of that length I swam in was at Fort Belvoir in Virginia.
Not sure when they quit keeping records for them.
My neighborhood pool is 35 yards long. Why? That's how much room there was between the tree line and the hill when hey built it way back when, so that's how long it is.
At Camp Lejeune in NC, the marines have a 50 YARD pool, very difficult to figure out what the intervals should be there.
