32 meter pools

Does anyone know the history behind why anyone would build a 32 meter pool in the US? Maybe a space issue? It is obviously not used for regulation meets - any info would be greatly appreciated. Have a great weekend.

out "city" pool open to the public is about this size. makes no sense to me either Why not build a 50 meter pool!?!?
