THAT GUY: Please find me tomorrow and introduce yourself. I haven't gotten to meet you yet. I've been working at the merchandise table most of the time.
ANDE: We will be attending the forums get-together. I will email you.
Jayhawk, I will try to find you today. I think I spotted you yesterday at one point. (if I was wrong, then some excellent awkwardness is about to happen with the wrong person, so everybody wins!)
Ande, I will not be able to make the forumite event. Family obligations.
That Guy - look me up too if you get the chance. I will probably be hanging out with Leslie or nearby. She can point you in my direction.
Will do. :chug:
I just want to give a  to Rick Colella for absolutely demolishing the world record in the 60-64 400 IM.
Wow.
Wow is right!!
I may have an interesting time in my next heads-up 400 IM race with Rick. I've been 3 for 3 by a narrow margin, all in SCY or SCM events. Who knows what happens next time?
And he's twice my age!!:afraid:
The afternoon commentator (name?) needs to get a clue... He raves about Michelyn Baker taking 40 seconds off her seed time in the 200 free.
The facts:
1. She has a good stroke and is 48 years old.
2. She is swimming in HEAT 2, along with women who are 83, 80, 75, 75, etc, and clobbers the field.
3. She swam 1:13.55 in SCY 100 free, in November, but seeded 3:30.00 for the 200 here, which would convert to around 3:05 SCY.
It's obvious she was sandbagging big time to give herself more time before her next event. Fine; this is not a statement about whether sandbagging is good/bad/ugly. This guy just needs to get a clue and not commend and praise her for taking 40 seconds off her seed time when she obviously set her time that slow to swim in that heat! :2cents:

Perhaps he was trying to be inclusive and nice. We aren't all super-star swimmers like you and appreciate a little pat on the back every now and then. I mean really, what about these kind words to this lady really hurt you or anyone else? :applaud:
I would imagine he probably doesn't have time to look up the past history of the lead swimmer while s/he is doing the race. I think it is kind of nice that he talks about taking time off an entry time for the heats when it is clear that a record won't be threatened.
I do understand where you are coming from, it doesn't seem right to praise the efforts of a sandbagger for clobbering people almost twice her age. But the fact that some entry times bear only a passing resemblance to reality isn't the announcer's fault. :)

Yes, in general I agree. This was an obvious sandbagging case, however, that made me notice enough to look her up after the fact. 40 seconds off a seed time for a good swimmer swimming a 200 race should have been enough for anybody to take notice at how obvious the sandbagging was... Giving praise to somebody for taking off a second or two- or even several- is great. But, 40? :shakeshead:

I think you are underestimating the possibilities of what can occur to a person in the course of a week or so. I know once I had to start taking Beta Blockers for a stupid heart arrythmia I've had my whole life (and didn't know about) my swim times have plummeted and will never be the same. It's entirely possible that the times this person entered might be their best based on their current situation and they should be applauded for the effort of trying. Either way I resign myself to the fact that it's always in good form to speak kindly of others accomplishments and I'm happy this lady had a better 200 than she thought she was going to have. I don't mean to attack you Elaine but I think you are being petty. If you feel this way that is fine but maybe you should just keep it to yourself. :badday: :worms: :cheerleader:
