Just don't try to keep up with him on hilly swims. He's an animal. Okay, that actually made me LOL!! :D

Get yourself on a plane to Scottsdale next week then: www.sanctuaryoncamelback.com/.../press_091911.html Actually that is bit more than I was planning to spend, but what a great weekend that would be. Wish I could go.
  • espn.go.com/.../lance-armstrong-runner-panama-triathlon-snubbed-winner Lance is now a pro triathlete. :applaud: Warning: the above links to a triathlon article, and therefore does not mention swimming in any way shape or form.

I love it. Love that he raced hard, but still got beat by a "real" triathlete. I love that he took a little while to congratulate him because he was pissed that he lost. But in the end, did the sportsmanlike thing. I bet he will pace himself better in the next race. This is going to make things pretty interesting in the world of professional triathlon. By the way, my friend raced Panama as an age-grouper. Her sister snapped a candid shot of Lance crossing the finish line and posted it on Facebook. :) Too early in the season for me, too expensive a trip... but it looks like a pretty nice location for a race.
  • "Snubbed" is such a joke. I find it ridiculous that the winner feels obligated to receive congratulations from other competitors, but I haven't competed in any triathlons, so maybe I shouldn't comment. Does the winner always wait for the next few finishers? I swam a 5K last year and shook the hands of a couple guys around me, but it wouldn't have been a big deal either way. The same goes to pool competitions...I'll usually look to neighboring lanes in finals, but it totally depends on the circumstances. In some sports, it is a tradition to shake hands after the game. I remember Lebron ducked out on a hand-shaking once.
  • I just came off a triathlon forum and someone started a poll if Armstrong damages the sport or helps it. More than half voted that he damages the reputation of triathlon. I thought the bashing was way over the top and don't really get it. I have a friend who is a bike racing fan. He's convinced Lance doped all through his TdF days. My tendency leans that way as well. He was quite disappointed that the Justice Dept. closed their investigation. I don't think that view is all that unusual in the cycling community. Given the continued suspicion, I don't find it all that odd that the tri community would be divided on what Lance brings to the sport. Skip

Does the winner always wait for the next few finishers? Nope. But don't blame Docherty for causing this (very minor) controversy. He was asked what he thought about Lance not shaking his hand when he finished. His quite truthful answer was that it would have been nice (a handshake) but he was probably upset at the moment. He then went on to say that Lance did the "right" thing a few minutes later. Docherty did not seek out a reporter to report that Lance snubbed him. Not much needs to be said on his swim though. 19:20 over 1900. Do the maths. It was 2000, not 1900 but it was with a current. Lance is not a contender for a trial cut in the 1500, much less a world record.
  • He receives much undeserved negative review. I mentioned about the greatest cyclist to my kid's (13 and 14), they referred to him as a doper. Hell, perhaps the entire top 30 finishers of TDF are (dopers). There is however one thing we do know for certain, and that is the man could hammer down the competition better than anyone doping or not.
