1,000,000 yards!

This year has been the first year of my three swimming so far that I've kept a log of my yardage. I didn't realize it at the time, but in doing the math this late night/early morning, I crossed 1,000,000 yards on Wednesday, November 16th. It happened sometime during my early morning workout at Santa Clara Swim Club, probably at the exact same moment I was resting at the wall and the flying hand of the hapless lady I shared a lane with whacked my nose! My nose was sore for the rest of the day. These are my totals per month: Jan: 100,700 Feb: 106,750 Mar: 110,350 Apr: 121,840 May: 68,261 Jun: 106,948 Jul: 79,725 Aug: 50,950 Sep: 107,100 Oct: 63,850 Nov: 111,000 (so far) Has anyone else crossed a million yards this year? Getting close?
  • Has anyone else crossed a million yards this year? Getting close? I'm at 935,819y right now so I should make it. My goal is 600 miles for the year (50 a month avg) and I am right at the proper pace for that. At one point during the year I had the goal of being a "million meter man" (which sounds pretty cool) and I was way ahead of pace after the summer, but work and family have seriously cut into my training this fall so I don't think I'll make it. I second the recommendation for "Go the Distance," which can be connected to the FLOG. The FLOG is a pretty convenient way to track training and it will tell you if you are on track to make your goal. I think you can go here to sign up: http://www.usms.org/myusms/
  • On the Go The Distance event, you have a possibility of setting a goal for total mileage covered in the year. I set mine at 1,000,000. I don't think I'll make it this year. I tried to set it for 10,000,000 miles, but the software apparently does not think that is possible or wise, so it is denies the setting. I think I need the extra challenge.
  • Congratulations on the 1000000 yards. :applaud: I'm a little bit over 750000, and have basically no chance of making a million.
  • Nice job on 1e6 yards. That's impressive. there is a guy over 1500 miles. I guess that is about 2.64e6 yards. That's over 60K a week!
  • Wow- that is a pretty nice accomplishment. A sincere congratulations! I've wondered how we can hook up these aerobic folks to the power grid somehow to bolster our municipal energy needs. I would be of little use, so please, experiment amongst yourselves.
  • I would be of little use I think it's wonderful when sprinters finally admit to this.:)
  • I think it's wonderful when sprinters finally admit to this.:) I'm with Speedo on this one. How cool would that be? I have heard of gyms that have self-powered TV's; they only work if you walk on a treadmill or pedal a bike to provide the energy to run them. Hmmm, if we could only do that sort of thing with swimmers... to anyone who can swim that many miles in one year! :applaud: And, Chris, I'm a sprinter who will join Speedo in admitting to this, as well. :agree: P.S. I've been a fan of loooooong distance swimmer Lynne Cox, since watching her train as a teenager in the waters off Long Beach and Seal Beach, California, as well as running on the soft sand of East Beach, Long Beach. I was just a kid in awe... And, as an adult, I have enjoyed her books. :cheerleader:
  • Great Job! I passed 1M yds last month. Should be hitting 1M meters soon... maybe by late Nov. Here's my monthly totals: Jan 24.18 miles (=42,550 yards, =38,908 meters) Feb 35.54 miles (=62,550 yards, =57,196 meters) Mar 59.66 miles (=105,008 yards, =96,019 meters) Apr 47.54 miles (=83,674 yards, =76,512 meters) May 62.24 miles (=109,541 yards, =100,164 meters) Jun 83.39 miles (=146,774 yards, =134,210 meters) Jul 70.48 miles (=124,047 yards, =113,429 meters) Aug 49.76 miles (=87,571 yards, =80,075 meters) Sep 68.64 miles (=120,800 yards, =110,460 meters) Oct 64.89 miles (=114,200 yards, =104,424 meters) Nov 38.24 miles (=67,300 yards, =61,539 meters) Total 604.55 miles (=1,064,015 yards, =972,935 meters)
  • Congratulations!! Hopefully you are participating in Go The Distance and picking up all sorts of swell awards.
  • I think it's wonderful when sprinters finally admit to this.:) Grrr.
