Some of you may remember a newbie to these forums from several years back, Couroboros, an intriguing user name that, if memory serves me, refers to a creature chasing him own tail. Mr. Couroboros thought this aptly metaphorical for pool swimming, where one goes back and forth endlessly above a black line.
At the time, he was overweight and a total neophyte to swimming. He asked for, and received, no shortage of advice from many generous and encouraging members of this forum. Now, three years later, he has written about his new sport in a great short essay here:

Mr. Couroboros: you do swimming proud! Keep on chasing your tail in the years to come.
Congrats on getting fit!
I, too, have a lot of people asking me why I still swim at the age of 30...including kids on my own swim team. It seems as though many people assume I want to join all those runners out there. Not gonna happen!
You underestimate my knowledge of the Dark Side of the Force- *cough*, the underside of the USMS Forums' history.
Ion beza seemed... angry. Whatever did happen to him? Was he banned?
Cool drop down from 240 to 165lbs in 3 years. You look awesome! I wonder if you trained your abs additionally or you just swam?
I made a come back a year and a half ago after 25 years without swimming and 15 years without sports (If not to count "Beerball" :D ). My drop down wasn't so impressing - just from 214 to 187lbs, but I continue work on my body to achieve my target weight (175lbs) :bouncing: :bliss::banana:
Be careful what you wish for. You are too young, grasshopper, to remember the ion beza saga of yore.
For the best, I suppose. For the best...
Ion Beza must have been before my time. Do tell!!!?
I want this on a golden plaque so I can hang it on the wall.
Thanks for posting the thread, Jim.

Nothing much revelatory, I'm afraid. :shakeshead:
Except what really happened - calorie metabolism > caloric intake, and when the intake consist of sufficient proportions of required nutrients, and furthermore when the muscles are already developed, you begin to look like a pro athlete.
Good job C, takes lots of work and discipline

Congrats on the weight loss!
I wouldn't say I did anything additional for my abs. Before this thread was posted, as a matter of fact, I didn't even think my abs were all that remarkable. My team does do dryland twice a week, but that's only for about half the season, when you factor in tapers, rainy days, training phases, etc... the parts of our dryland that consist of ab-related stuff are varying kinds of sit-ups, coffins, and planks, mainly. I have also started doing my own more rigorous and consistent dryland regimen on the side, but that only began last month.

I have been told that we all have quite remarkable looking abs. It is just that for the majority of us they lie hidden behind a blubbery blanket never to be revealed. Yours have been disrobed, so to speak.

I also think that genetics have a lot to do with whether the blubbery blanket can be removed or not. Some -- like Mr. C. -- appear to be excellent exercise responders. But even Muhammad ALi in prime fighting weight had a nice blanket of dough--I wouldn't call it a quilt, more of a throw.
