The national qualifying times for the 2019 U.S. Masters Swimming Spring National Championship have been released. The meet will be held April 25-28 in Mesa, Ariz. More info about the meet, such as hotels, can be found on our meet info page. (Please read this info about the national qualifying times.)
Good to hear that you might be going to Mesa. John and I plan to go. Do you think we can field some SLAM relays?
I can certainly check and see if anybody else is planning on going. I'm sure we won't have the 18-35 ages presence that we did in Indy, but maybe we can patch together some relays.
:wave:Hey, Michael! I haven't seen you on here in years! Nice to see you back, even if it's for just a quick question.
Remember the last Nationals in Mesa with you, Deb, and James? That was fun (except for the heat)!! I will never forget that it was at the moment we were all together having a beer that we heard Osama bin Laden was taken down.:applaud: It was also then that I learned a rare (for our area) tornado hit just a few miles away from our house.
No Mesa for me this year. I'm headed to Albuquerque instead for the National Senior Games.
Good luck!
:cheerleader: :chug:
This year there are now 3 events that are only open to those with qualifying times:
* 1650 free
* 1000 free
* 400 IM
Where did you read this? As far as I can tell the 1650 is the only event where swimmers are required to meet the qualifying time to enter:
Competitors may enter up to three individual events without meeting the national qualifying times, or a maximum of six events if they meet the NQTs (i.e. have swum a time equal to or better than the NQTs during the past two years). Exception: Competitors entering the 1650 freestyle must meet the NQT

Interesting that aztimm just completely deleted his rant...er post. Seems like a "mea culpa" would have been appropriate.
TBH, it's really generous for USMS to adopt such a honor system approach to qualifying for Nationals, period. I mean, I understand the desire to be inclusive and use Nats as a gathering of Masters swimmers as much as a championship meet, but it is technically a National meet.
That said, I had been planning on going this year but have had some unexpected expenses so far and so probably will not be spending more money on a swim meet... maybe next year in San Antonio.
