Hi all,
I need to ask a question. I have hit a brick wall wall here. My times and overall feeling have become very sluggish. I have been swiming sc 3 days a week for a weekly total of 10-15k. i vary speed/distance/intensity. 8 weeks ago i am repeating 100's sub 1:05 on 1:30 without issue. Now i'm lucky to see 1:13's. I also run 20-30mi/wk and bike 2-3 hrs. Everything is staggered properly. The only other problem is that the pool is 85 degrees. What do you think? more speed work? more days? more distance? My swim training is geared towards late spring OW >3miles. :badday:

Well no takers...So I see a sprint set twice a week something like 10 100's on 1:20 and an slight increase in yardage. Maybe i'll start having a snack before i workout. Still open for comments here.
If you're planning to swim open water, you won't have 85 degrees.
I have trouble working hard in water that's too warm.
Drink lots of water. Do some sprint sets along with timed long sets, 1 mile in 30 min. Do open turns to minimize the flip turn advantage.

85 degrees will slow you down, ALOT. try a pool thats 68-72. Were you getting cramps in the 85 degree pool?
nah, no cramps. what i've done in the last 6 weeks is increase yardage to about 5500-6000 per WO for about 18k a week. turned one workout into a sprint/hi intensity losts of rest sets. the funny thing is this, i repeat 1:10's all day long when i'm swimming 500's up to 2000 at a atime. then i go to hammer a 500 and i can't get below 5:40. i'm adding another swim becausei need the yardage. They "chilled" the pool down to 81-82. I'm SOL on that. The elderly are complainng about, as i write this i'm sure.
lastly, i'm wondering if it's my other activities just wearng me out. do run around 30 miles a week and bike up to 4 hours right now. Don't know. I still want to speed up.
