FRUSTRATED..I can't find loyal swimming buddies!

I'm beyond bored swimming on my own. Even though I have started an adult (unofficial Master's) team at my local YMCA, there are MAX, 5 of us....and usually not all at once...Plus we only practice ONCE A WEEK, on Saturday mornings. It's kind of a joke! Where the heck do I live that I can't find a bunch of GOOD adult competitive swimmers to swim with...ones that want to do some serious workouts even during the week???????????? Sorry. Just venting!:rant3: If any of you live in Delaware, Maryland or even PA, COME SWIM WITH ME!!!!!!!!!!:wiggle:

Too funny how they listen to you!!! You probably don't stick out like a sore thumb like I would at 37 years old!!! Alison, you may not stick out like you think! One of the national girls told me this summer, "My mom asked who the new girl @ practice was and I told her you were in your 20s . My mom said she couldn't believe it." Oh and I do meets w/ the kids AND masters so I don't feel deprived in any area. I have the option to swim with masters teams or the kids. I had heard that some masters swam with the kids so I thought, "Why not?" I feel that I have to give 100% with the kids just to set a good example. Why not put differences aside (age is just a number) and try something new? Alex, that's a great story! But I don't think that 22 is old! :laugh2:

Just tell them you used to train with Dara Torres. If they know anything about swimming they'll shut up for fear you'll turn the afterburners on :P
  • I miss swimming with the kids but my 2 day a week fix of kids team is keeping me going. Of course I am very self motivated so I probably push myself too hard some times when I swim on my own. Then again in the evenings when I am now coaching a local kids team and they start complaining about the interval I ask them "Would you rather swim it on the interval I did this morning?" Then I find they are up to the challenge. They know I swim and that I am on the faster side since we all did a meet together last weekend. I saw some of them writing "Coach Donna" in their programs. The parents are so appreciative of having me there and I am really loving it.

I have so much great advice from my many coaches that I'd love to share! The YMCA swim team starts practicing in the am on Saturdays here again (which is a problem since our little Master's team is there Saturdays as well). So I may be having to ask to join them anyway!!!!!! Watch out 12 year olds, here I come!:wiggle:
