Say there is a set like this… 10x100 Odds/stroke Evens/free Or 10x100 Odds/choice Evens/free What does “stroke” or “choice” mean for odd laps??? Thank you.
  • It depends on what the coach wants it to mean “The coach is always right” Usually 10x100 Odds/stroke Evens/free means that on the 1st, 3rd, 5th,7th and 9th 100’s (the odd numbered ones) you swim 100 fly, back, *** (sometimes a 100 IM is allowed) and on the 2nd, 4th, 6th, 8th and 10th 100’s (the even numbered ones) you swim free. When a coach says “choice” this could be one of the strokes or free.

It does depend on the coach and on the strengths of the swimmer. In my experience, stroke has meant your best stroke other than freestyle, and choice is either any stroke or anything but free.
