  • (Sigh) An acronym (lit. "short word") is a word made up of initial letter(s) of other words. There are very few acronyms in English. Here are some of the most common: snafu: situation normal, all fouled up scuba: self-contained underwater breathing apparatus radar: radio detecting and ranging I have never seen an acronym used in a swimming context, although there might be one. There are lots of abbreviations, initialisms, and shorthand ways of writing things in swimming workouts: SDK: an initialism Helpful hint: if you can't pronounce it as a word, it is not an acronym.
