So we have a "swim rant" thread, but I wanted to post my "swim happy" moment today, probably brought on by being out of the water for over a week.
Pool reopened after maintenance + clear, fresh perfect temp water + 6 lap lanes between 4 lap swimmers = 4200yd :bliss:
You're welcome! I like your enthusiasm, Skuj. I was just like you when I joined back in 2010, and I am still like that today! I LOVE swimming; it's a passion, for sure. :ohyeah:
Hey, I'm just curious. I'm not sure if you mentioned it on another thread, but what is your age? It will help me to relate to the times you have been posting.
Aw thanks ElaineK. You are an inspiration.
I'm happy today too!! Thursday is 25m day. I have a new PR of 18.3sec. (Pushing off the wall. If I dove would I be 17sec?)
Maybe this is not the thread to ask, but do we know what the fastest 25m is? In the 50m SC WR video I think I see them hitting the wall at around 9.75sec, but that is while executing a flip turn vice reaching. I suspect 9.5sec should be the WR?
(I'm a numbers guy. I can't help it.)
All you wickedly fast people posting! 😵I should stop being jealous and maybe just focus on simply outlasting everyone. Hell, it works in hockey. 😂 (kidding, kidding. It's super awesome how fast some folks are and that they're getting faster everytime. Congrats!)
:welcome:, Zwemmer! I felt the same way as you when I joined USMS after 31 years away from the pool!
I joined these Forums when I was a newbie, and I was very thankful for everybody who patiently answered my questions, critiqued my stroke videos, and offered support. Hang with us, and you will get a lot out of it. In the meantime, have FUN!
I followed your advice to hang with y'all and have fun. :)
After my 33 years off and only five months of practice I swam in our South Carolina SCY state championships a couple of weeks ago. A meet! I'd forgotten how much I loved them. Touchpads! They still say Colorado Timing on them. The excitement of it all! I had so much fun I've got a reserve of it that ought to last through Christmas. :)
Our team, Palmetto Masters, won in a landslide of points and there were many records set, lifetime best swims, first-time swims, and all kinds of amazing achievements in all age groups. I am so proud of our team. I surprised the heck out of myself by setting a state record in the 50-54 age group 100 *** going 1:04.10. And then did a :25.27 in the 50 Fly which I understand is a Top-10 time in the U.S. so far this year. Also a :23.95 50 Free.
First race was the 100IM. First race back after all this decades. I managed to front-load it with all those years of anxiety, "can I still do this?" thoughts, and whatever else was roaring around in my head. My goal was to break a minute and I did going :59.10 but I know I can go faster. Had to get that first one out of the way so the fun could really begin and it did since the next event was the 100 ***. :)
So thanks ElaineK and all of you for being here and reminding me to HAVE FUN!

That's fantastic. I can only hope to be going those times when I'm in your age group. Only 20 years to go :P

That's awesome, Z! Way to go! You remind me of Ted Hammond, a new member of Georgia Masters who I interviewed for a Swimmer Profile feature for our newsletter. He hadn't competed in about 10 years (not as long of a break as my 31 or your 33 years away from competition), and he set three state SCM records in his first meet back. At his second meet at Auburn (SCY), he swam his way into the Top Ten (including a couple of #5's) in a few of his events in the 65-69 age group.
Congratulations on rocking the pool! More importantly, I am glad you enjoyed the experience.
Hang around here on the Forums, because we enjoy having enthusiastic and positive swimmers here! :wiggle:
