So we have a "swim rant" thread, but I wanted to post my "swim happy" moment today, probably brought on by being out of the water for over a week.
Pool reopened after maintenance + clear, fresh perfect temp water + 6 lap lanes between 4 lap swimmers = 4200yd :bliss:

Achieved a new personal best in my usual 500 breaststroke (as part of my workout) - a smooth 11m43s. (But Badger, you say. That's not very fast at all. And I said, well, considering that 5 years ago I was working to get below 18m, I would say it's not half bad). My goal/aim/directive/hope is to swim in a couple of local open-water events come the summer (1/2 mile to 1mile), and achieve a moderately reasonable time so. Slowly getting faster.

Way to go, 'Badger! Don't worry about what other people think or say about your time. It's all relative, right, it was a terrific improvement for you, and that's all that matters. :agree:

Great job Badger! I can barely do 50y *** and here you're going that distance. Nice work! Hey, every little bit of tme you can knock down is fantastic. Don't worry about what the other people are doing, just focus on you and the rsults will come. :)
A few good things today.
1. Did 2000yds in one pool workout for the first time. I've usually been at 1500-1800.
2. 1st 200yd freestyle pull-set. Incremental freestyle improvement continues!
3. Shaved my 500yd breaststroke (my warmup) to 12m20s. (Last check was 12m34s, and earlier this month was 12m48s.) Becoming more efficient.
Way to go, badger! :applaud:
This past weekend, I swam in a two-day meet and swam my best 200 fly and 200 breaststroke times in two years. It was a swim happy for me! :bliss:
We've had some coach turnover the last six months and they haven't been nearly as good as our aquatics director who used to coach us. She was our coach this morning and it was so great to get one of her "death-by-razor-cuts-Kelsey" workouts. They're always deceivingly simple, yet challenging, and she's good about giving you feedback. It was great to have her on deck today.
Aren't the instructors/coaches/directors who whip your tail while believing fervently in your ability to succeed (and helping you get there) just the best? A rare breed, glad you have one in your corner! :)

Alas, I have come down with my old nemesis Upper Respiratory Tract Infection, putting me out of the gym/pool the past hand of days. I have been going for a brief daily walk to keep my sanity, but it's just not the same. :(
Hopefully, I can get back on track with the swimming goals soon. I'm over where I need to be to make my distance goal, but I don't want to run out of padding.

I love this thread.
I started swimming 4 weeks ago. At that time I determined that my goal for the year is to achieve a "50% score" in something. A 50% score is when you take the WR and double it. :)
But I achieved my first 50% score today!!
Wednesday is 800m slog day.
3 weeks ago I swam 15:56.
2 weeks ago I swam 15:32.
Last week I swam 14:53.
Today I swam 14:36!!!
I got to 400m in 7:23 and I had all kinds of doubts. I thought I was going to slow down and miss my 14:40 dreamtime for today. But I sped up to 7:13 on the second half. (My 400m PR is 7:09!!!) I'm learning a lot about 800m and myself.
If I was any happier there would be two of me.
