The Butterfly Lane

Butterfly, beautiful to watch, difficult to train. We SDK off every wall. We're most likely to smack hands with each other and those beside us. Fly's fun to sprint but no fun when the piano comes down What did you do in practice today? the breastroke lane The Middle Distance Lane The Backstroke Lane The Butterfly Lane The SDK Lane The Taper Lane The Distance Lane The IM Lane The Sprint Free Lane The Pool Deck

  • Here's a butterfly challenge I've had my eye on for a while. It took me a couple tries but I completed it today. Saturday main set (1650 fly) DAVIS MILE, ALL BUTTERFLY went 23:11 Davis Mile = broken 1650. Swim 275, 10 seconds rest, swim 250, 10 seconds rest, swim 225, 10 seconds rest, ... , swim 25. Subtract 1:40 from running time to get add-up 1650 time. After failing to complete this set on October 28th, I gave it another shot. I don't think anything was actually different about my ability to finish the set. I was just more motivated today, and I got a dose of positivity during the 200 when I realized that if nothing else, I had made it farther than my previous attempt in which I stopped after the 225. The degree of difficulty of each swim did not really feel any different to me until I got to the 100. Even though the swims were getting substantially shorter, they didn't feel that way until I was almost done. I did DPS fly through the 75, and then switched to regular fly for the 50 and the 25. Masters Minute 550 easy 400 IM stroke drill and out Way to go, TG! I did a 1000 fly back in the spring as I was training for Nats, but haven't done much fly at all since then. I'm picking it back up in January and will definitely give this a shot in the spring!
