What a swim! 76 miles! Plans call for Paul to be in the water 8 a.m. on June 11 and emails of encouragement from fellow swimmers are most welcome - check the info on www.firstsoloswimseaofcortez.com/ Let's send Paul off with lots of love. Please take two minutes and send a quick email even it just says Good Luck to paul@f2r.com. With that departure time, we are inviting people to think of him for the following 48 hours. For every hour that Paul is in the water. He’s going to be alone and we want him to be conscious of our support, love and enthusiasm. Email sarah@distanceswimming.com and indicate a time you’d like to pray, send good vibes, energy or thoughts out to the universe or whatever—we’ll take it! Tell Sarah that you’re interested in contributing and provide her a window of time that would be ideal for your schedule and careful attention. Thank you!
  • Best of luck to Paul -- as his website indicates, one of the challenges in the Sea of Cortez are microscopic jelly fish. I ran into a slew of them in early April on a two mile swim outside of La Paz, and I still could feel the sting several days later (even after using a vinegar rinse and hot, hot water).
  • Per the website, there will be a boat with him, but they won't be giving him food or otherwise assisting him (if I read it correctly).

Wait, he's swimming alone, with no support crew?
  • Per the website, there will be a boat with him, but they won't be giving him food or otherwise assisting him (if I read it correctly). Pretty sure he will be eating and drinking during the swim, presumably from the boat. It would be impossible otherwise. In marathon swimming, "unassisted" means not using artificial aids such as wetsuit, fins, etc.; also no supportive physical contact with people or things while in the water. Food and drinks are OK.

Just a quick update: Paul had to delay his swim until this November.....well, he's swimming in 3 days! He left for Loreto, Mexico this morning. As of now the launch time is a moving target. We will be tracking the swim live at: www.swimcortez.com The original plan was to launch on November 6th, but to avoid strong winds we might be launching as early as November 4th at 3AM. Please stay tuned to the website, Twitter & Facebook for updates in real time: www.facebook.com/swimsolocortez https://twitter.com/SwimCortez I'm helping Paul with his social media & PR. If anyone has any questions or would like the press release, please email me at JonahHolland@gmail.com Here's Pablo at the airport this morning with Dennis Sullivan & photog Scott Rokis. 8052
