Yeah, while you're swimming at the lake, your family can spend the day at Lowe's Motorspeedway, drinkin' beer, spittin' terbaccy, and cussin' at the drivers driving the wrong model vehicle!!!
Haven't been to Charlotte for a long time, but there used to be a very nice museum called Discovery Place or something that's great for kids. Geek will be able to address that.
The Charlotte NASCAR race is May 30th, which will mean horrific traffic on race day. If you are leaving on Sunday, either do so very very early if headed up 85 or while the race is in session. Actually, just avoid I-85 completely if you can around the race track (exit 48).
Discovery Place is in uptown, about 15 miles south of the swim race. Kids love it and it's a good diversion. However, with the race in town, uptown will be jam packed.
