I have been to numerous races at this venue. It is very nice, plenty of parking and pretty. I am going and try to convince some of my teammates as well. Some other items of note:
1. There are facilities but I hope they will bring in a few extra port o pottys.
2. The "beach" is at the bottom of a small hill which affords a ton of viewing area for spectators. There is some shorline as well for chairs.
3. The water will be between 70-80. Here's a URL to a fairly unsophisticated water temp reading. www.lakenormansweb.com/.../index.php. This is from Lake Norman which is just a few miles north but it is all part of the same river lake system so the temp might be 1 degree warmer at the race.
4. The water is murky. Visibility is extremely limited. You will do a ton of sighting.
5. That early in the day the water will be glass, zippo waves or even ripples.
6. I've never had to swim directly into the rising sun here. Let's hope it is the same this year.
I'm excited about this swim and hope many attend.
