this will be my first 10k and I want to know what others have done to train, my training right now is 2 swims a week each a 3miles, then 2 a week each time I swim 7miles. I also do some weight lifting to for the arms. The other question is the race said you need to have a feeder. So how should I train the person that is doing the feedings, Do the feeding stations get crowed? then is the best time to feed, during how many miles. If any one has any info to give me I would be so happy!
I agree with lump, try to go for greater consistency in yardage per workout. So perhaps try starting with four or five 3-4000 meter workouts per week, then take up the yardage as you feel more comfortable. I also like to work on a lot of 100 and 200's at pace and really push the pace to the limits of my comfort level. The goal being to swim say 50+ 100's on a challenging send off with the times getting faster throughout the set and over time.
As for feedings, the last race I did I only told my sister that she would be wading out with my gatorade about 5 min before the race started and she had no problems. Race organizers usually talk the feeders through what they need to know. All you have to do is give them what you want to eat and give them an idea of when to expect you at the feeding station.
Best of luck!! Which race are you doing?
