I swam at Ohio St today at about 10.0am (can't get out of bed in time to do a 6am :afraid:). the water was mid 50's and fairly smooth despite it being windy. The lane-line type buoys aren't there yet, but the markers to keep the boats out are. Of course there was a boat inside them when I first got there! Tomorrow looks like being a nice day too, so I'll definitely go for a swim. Not sure what time yet. Parking at Navy Pier's the easiest cos there's toilets and you can get something to eat after. It's a $20 flat rate at the moment. I remember a couple of years ago a bunch of us tried to swim from Ohio st around to Oak st and the lifeguards had a fit!! (mid summer). I guess there are a lot of boats and jetskis around at times, beyond the designated swimming areas.

oh yeah. There's a 1/2 mile marker spray painted on the wall which is a good place to turn back at. It's great to watch the buildings! Nice place to swim
  • See you both in Vermont! I'd love to do this swim. Lake Memphremagog, beyond black fly season, close enough to Ben and Jerry's mothership -- all good! But I probably won't. :cane: lacking :2cents: to rub together

Palos Heights is about 40 min drive south of Midway airport,..straight down Cicero. Our youngest daughter graduated from Trinity Christian College in Palos Heights. I have only swam once in fresh water....that was in Maine, Baxter State Park,.Daicy Pond . I don`t know what the water temp was. I understand that fresh water feels colder than salt water,...I`ll find out tomorrow. Thanks for all the help...I DO appreciate it.

I went to the north side of the Navy Pier, but could find no place to change, so I ended up at the North Shore Beach ( I think )...and took a dip. The water was not as cold as I expected,..untill I got out a couple hundred yards. Yes,..I wore a wetsuit. What a great view of the city!!!! What fun!

I have an Olympus Stylus 1030sw waterproof camera. It stores neatly on the underside of my forearm under a rash-guard top or wetsuit.
