Chris Greene Lake Cable Swim

The Chris Greene 1- and 2-mile cable swims will be held -- in beautiful Charlottesille VA -- on Saturday July 11. Online entry is up and running: www.clubassistant.com/.../meet_information.cfm This race has been held in one form or another since 1977; learn more about the race and its illustrious history at http://www.cableswim.org/ Dave Holland is the current race director and it is run incredibly well. Cable swims are especially good for OW swim neophytes, since it is somewhat of a cross between a pool swim and a "regular" OW swim. The cable is sort of like a lane line that you can follow if you have trouble sighting on distant buoys or swimming in a straight line. But it is a good race for the more ambitious swimmers as well, since cable swims are the only OW swims for which USMS national records are kept. After the race and race social, you can tour one of the local wine vineyards...as Mark Gill reputedly did last year to celebrate his 40th b-day in grand fashion... I hope to see you there!

  • I will be there. I really like this swim, navigation is so easy, they start you in waves on 10, and Dave does a great jog organizing the swim. Plus, there are so many great places to go wine tasting afterwards! Julie SO...I will probably regret issuing this challenge, but are you and Jeff up for a rematch? Cumulative time: Jeff & Julie vs Chris & Heather. Loser supplies beer...sometime (since I need to work the USA-S race right after the masters race and can't go wine tasting).
